Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment. Based on the
information provided and our understanding of the project and its
APE, we typically would recommend an archaeological review
performed for this project. This is in an area the Duwamish Tribe
considers culturally significant and has a moderate probability to
have unknown archaeological deposits, particularly given the location
near streams that feed into the Cedar River. After looking at the test
pits from the geotechnical report, the Tribe is mainly concerned about
the contact between fill and sands with fines. If any archaeological
work is performed, we request notification. An IDP should not be
used in lieu of an archaeological investigation. However the Tribe
would accept an IDP for this project with attention paid to depths
below fill. Cultural and archaeological resources are non-renewable
and are best discovered prior to ground disturbance. In addition the
Tribe recommends only native vegetation for any proposed
landscaping.
