Close, Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on the 800 Garden project located at 800 Garden Ave N. Based on the information provided and our understanding of the project and its APE, we would typically recommend an archaeological review performed for this project. This is in an area the Duwamish Tribe considers culturally significant and has a high probability to have unknown archaeological deposits, especially if excavation cuts below fill. There are at least 2 archaeological sites within about a mile and a quarter of the project site. The DAHP WISAARD predictive model indicates that a survey is highly recommended with a very high risk for encountering cultural resources. An IDP should not be used in lieu of an archaeological investigation. However, based on previous ground disturbance and after reviewing the bore logs from the geotechnical report, the Tribe would accept an IDP from below fill to depth of excavation or ground disturbance, especially where the topmost layer of peat and the upper alluvium layer were encountered. In general we noted that these depths would be at depths from about 5 feet to about 20 feet below ground surface across the site. We also request that if any archaeological work or monitoring is performed, we would like notification. Cultural and archaeological resources are non-renewable and are best discovered prior to ground disturbance. The Tribe would also like the opportunity to be present if or when an archaeologist is on site in the event that an artifact or cultural resource is encountered. In addition, the Tribe strongly recommends only native vegetation be used for any proposed landscaping. Thank you, Nancy A Sackman Cultural Preservation
