Extend shoulder pavement to provide a base for the
extruded curb. See Contract Plans for exceptions to
distances shown.
Use a single block or combination of blocks (no more
than two (2) to achieve the actual 12" (in) offset. See
Standard Specification 9-16.3(2). Wood blocks
shall be secured to the posts with anti-rotation nails.
If combination blocks are used, the adjacent blocks
shall be toenailed with two 16d galvanized nails to
prevent block rotation.
Wood blocks are shown. Blocks of an approved
alternative material may be used. See Standard
Specification 9-16.3(2).
All posts for any standard barrier run shall be of the
same type: timber or steel.

The Implementation of the Manual for Assessment of Safety
Hardware (MASH) criteria may result in the acceptance ofguardrail terminal systems currently not shown on this plan,or the elimination of guardrail terminals that are on this plan.Non-Flared terminals shall be selected from the WSDOT
Qualified Products List (QPL) or approved through the WSDOTRequest for Approval of Materials (RAM) process.
This terminal is FHWA eligible at Test Level Two (TL-2) andmay be used in applications with posted speeds of 45 mph
or less.
An SKT-SP-MGS (TL-2) as manufactured by Road Systems,Inc. or SOFTSTOP (TL-2) as manufactured by Trinity Highway
Products, LLC shall be installed according to manufacturer's
recommendations.
A reflectorized object marker shall be installed according tomanufacturer's recommendations.
When snow load post washers and snow load rail washers are
required by the Contract, the snow load rail washers shall notbe installed within the terminal limits.
Terminal shall be installed at a widening, ensuring the end pieceis entirely off the shoulder. While this terminal does not requirean offset at the end, a flare is recommended. For the SKT-SP-MGS(TL-2), a maximum flare of 25 : 1 or flatter over the length of the
terminal is allowed with a maximum offset of 24" (in) over 50' (ft).
For the SOFTSTOP (TL-2) a maximum flare of 38.29 : 1 or flatteris allowed over the system length of
38' - 3 1/2" with a maximum offsetof 12" (in) at the anchorpost.
For terminal details, see WSDOT approved manufacturer's
drawings.
The SOFTSTOPterminal is supplied
with steel posts only.It can be used withguardrail runs
composed of steelor wood guardrail
posts.
