Irnprvicus surfacs and other urban and suburban landscaps generate a varietyf ontaminnts that can enter stormwater and pallute downstream receiving watrs unless treatment is pravided. The ioPad system uses proprietary tarmMixT"' biofiltration media to cap#ure and retain pallutants inciuding tatal suspended solids(TSS),metls, nutrien#s,gross solids, trash and debris as well as ptroleurn hydrmcarbons. UICtlf1 The BioPod system uses enginered,high-flow rate filter media to remave stormwater pollutants, allcavving for a smaller fnotprint than conventional bioretention systems.Contained within a compact precast concrte vault, the ioPad system consists sf a biofiftratian chamber andnptiona!integrated highflaw bypass with a contoured inlet rack to mioirnize scaur. The biofeitration chamber is filled with horizantal 9ayers af aggregate(which rnay or may coot include an underdrain},biofiltratin mdia ad mulch. Stcrmenaater pass vertically down through the mulch and hiofiitration medifor treatrraent. The mulch provides pretreatment by retaining mast af thsalids or sedirnent. The biofiltratlon media provides further treatment by retaining finer sediment and dissolved pollutarts. The aggregate allows ths media bd to drairevenly for discharge thraugh an underdrain pipe or by infcltration. Gorfigurtiorr The BicPod systm can be configured with either an internal ar external bypass. The interna4 bypass allaws bo#h vvater quality and bypass flows to enter the treatment vault.T'he water qua9ity flows are directed ta the biofiltratian chamberwhile#he excess flows are divQrted overthe bypass weirwithout entering the biofiltrtin charrgber. Both the treatment and bypass flows are combined in the outlet area prior to discharge from the structur. BiaPod units without an internal bypass are designed such that aniy treatment flws enter the treatment structure. When 4he system haxceded its treatrnent capacity, poding will force bypass flows to continue down ihe gutter to the nearest standard catch basin or other extrnal bypass structure. The BioPod system can bcanfogured as a tree bex filter wth tre and grated inlet,as a planter box fo0ter with shrub, grasss and an open tap,or as an underground filter with access risers, daors and a subsurface inlet pipe. The optional internal bypass may be incorporated with ny of thse cc,nfiguratins. Loading characteristics may be determined as follows: o Light sedirnent leaad-seddrnent is diffwcult tcdisfiguishmcng the mwlch f bers at the tp of the mu6ch layer;the rrru6ch appears almastew. o Msdium sediment load-sediment accumultion is apprent and may be concentratd in same areas; probing the mufch layer reveals Bightr sediment Poads under the top 1"of mulh. m Hevy sedrment load -sediment is readily apparentcross the entire top of the mulch layer;individual mulch fibrs are diffieult to distinguish;probing the mulch Iayer reveals heavy sediment laad under the tcp 1"of mulch. ften, much of the invasive vege#ation and trash and debris rnay be remved mnually at thtime of ispection if a separate main#enance visi#is nct yet vuarranted. 3 Instrument Number: 20230127000161 Document:COV Rec: $222.50 Page-17 of 20 Record Date:l/27/2023 9:09 AM King County,WA , tlAaintenance Ind6cators Maintenance shauld be scheduled if any of the follawing canditions are identified during inspectian: The concrete structure is damaged or the tree grate or access cver is damaged or missing. The curb iniet or inlet rack is abstructed. • Standing wa4er is abserved in the biofiltration chamber more than 2haurs after a rainfall event(use discretion if the BioPod is located dowrstrearn of a storage system thatttnuates flow). lrash and debris in the inlet rack cannat be esily removed at the tirne of inspection. • Trash and debris, invasive vegetation or sediment load in the biofoltration chambr is heavy arexcessive erosion has occurred. aintrnEqipmen# The following equiprnent is helpful when conducting BioPod maintenance: 5uitable clathing(ppropriate footwear, gloves, harclhat, safety glasses, etc.) • Traffic control equipment(cones, barricades, signage,Flagging, etc.) Manhole hook or pry bar • Flashlight • Tape measur • Rake, hoe, shovel and broom • Bucket • Pruners • Vacuum truck(aptianal) 11aintenace Procdurs Maintenancshould be conducted during dry wather when na flowas are entering the system. All rnaintenanee may be conductd without en#ering the BioPod structure.
