Grady Way or via Zoom CALL TO ORDER The Human Services Advisory Committee (HSAC) meeting for January 17, 2023 was called to order at 3:06 p.m. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: Staff Members Present: Joe Scovel, Chair Guy Williams, Human Services Manager Adair Hasty, Vice Chair Lori Fleming, Human Services Coordinator Jessie Friedmann Nina Christian, Administrative Secretary 1 Leslie Anderson Margarita Villarreal Marjan Didra Valentine Portolano Committee Members Absent: Amy Koehl Gary Barquet APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Member Portolano, seconded by Member Didra to approve the agenda. MOTION CARRIED. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of November 15, 2022 Human Services Advisory Committee Meeting minutes. Moved by Chair Scovel, seconded by Vice Chair Hasty. MOTION CARRIED. AUDIENCE COMMENT No audience comments. Page 1 of 2 January 17, 2023 Human Services Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes NEW BUSINESS a) Welcome and introductions for new Human Services Advisory Committee members. Guy Williams, Human Services Manager, welcomed new HSAC members. HSAC members and staff introduced themselves to the group. b) Review Human Services Advisory Committee Bylaws and Robert's Rules of Order. Guy Williams briefed HSAC on the Committee's Bylaws and Robert's Rules of Order. c) Elect Vice Chair. Chair Scovel motioned to re-elect Vice Chair Hasty, seconded by Member Anderson. All were in favor. MOTION CARRIED. d) Review 2023-24 Human Services general fund grant awards. Lori Fleming, Human Services Coordinator, discussed the process of Human Services general fund grant funding for new committee members. Reviewed the list of 2023-2024 Human Services Funding Awards. e) Follow up on agency presentation suggestions for 2023. HSAC members discussed agencies they would like to have present in 2023. COMMITTEE MEMBER UPDATES HSAC voiced concerns heard among community members about the rising cost of living and rent increases. Discussed possible barriers to access for affordable housing. HSAC raised interest in reviewing City’s Legislation regarding affordable housing. HSAC suggested housing agencies, attorneys that specialize in housing, and/or City staff provide a presentation on these issues. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 4:11 p.m. The next Renton Human Services Advisory Committee Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 3:00 pm via Zoom or in person.
