CREATING A TEMPLATE ON CASSP
DRAFT VS TEMPLATE
Why use a template instead of a draft? A draft can only be used once, whereas a template can be used repeatedly.
Recommendation: Use a template when you have multiple applications/permits for the same type of work (i.e. hot
water installation) that are for different addresses/units/apartments. You can use the same description, same
contractor/contacts, and same information on the More Info screen.
From the Home screen after signing in:
STEP 1:
Find the application you are applying for by clicking either the Apply tile on the Home screen or the Apply button on
the black toolbar.
If you are not sure of the application you are looking for, type keywords into the Application Assistant and click enter
or the magnifying glass to help you narrow down your search.
Below the application assistant a list will appear with applications that have any of the keywords you typed in the
name of the application. You can click on one of these, or if you hit enter or the magnifying glass, a list of applications
will be on the screen.

STEP 2:
From the list of applications select the application you are applying for by clicking the blue Apply button next to the
application type.
STEP 3:
Go through all the steps to apply as you would normally filling in all the information on each screen of the application.
STEP 4:
On the final step of the application at the Review and Submit screen, instead of selecting Submit select Create
Template grey button at the bottom of the screen.
STEP 5:
On the Create template pop-up screen enter a name for the template you are going to save in the empty field and click
on the blue Save Template button. Then click OK.

STEP 7:
When you click OK it will take you back to the beginning of your template to go through
and check what you have entered. If you make changes be sure to click the grey Save
Changes button at the bottom.
STEP 8:
When you are ready to apply for your application, follow steps 1-2 of this handout. Instead of clicking the blue Apply
button next to the application, click Show My Templates
STEP 9:
Click on the blue Apply button next to the template you created for the application you wish to apply for.
Or if you know you are going to use a template, go to the top right of the screen, select the drop down next to your
name, and select Saved Work (must be logged in).
Click use next to the application you wish to apply for.

NOTE: You can also update your templates at
any time using the same method, just select
Update next to the template you wish to
update.
STEP 10:
Go through the steps of the application as you would normally by clicking the Next button at the bottom, all the
information you saved in the template will be already entered, only make changes if you need to (such as description,
contacts or More Info screen information), but if no changes are necessary, go to the attachments section (if
attachments are required), add your required attachments. At the last screen (Review and Submit), click Submit.
Items that can’t be saved on a Template:
1. Application/Permit Type
2. If a location is part of the application, this will have to be added each time. The template does not save this
information.
3. Attachments cannot be saved in a template.
