GeotechnicalEngineeringReportProposedRetailDevelopment—60SWSunsetBoulevard.Renton.WAOctober30.2013SITECEOLOCYANDSUBSURFACECONDITIONSAccordingtotheGeologicMapofKingCounty(Booth.et.al.2007).theprojectsiteisLinderlainbyTukwilaFormation(Tpt),whichisdescribedasconsistingmainlyofandesiticsandstone,tutEandminorlavaflowsorsills.Thesoilsobservedintheboringsconsistedoffilloverloosetoverydensesiltysand(completelytohighlytoteathcredsandstonej,theresultsfromoursubsurfaceexplorationaregenerallyconsistentwiththemappedgeologyatthesite.Theftllowingisadescriptionofthesubsurfaceconditionsencounteredintheboringsadvancedatthesite.Pleaserefertothesummaryboringlogs(Figures4and5)bradditionaldetails.Unit1:Fill—Ourboringsencounteredapproximately3to3’/2tbetofbrowntodarkbrown,moist,loosetomediumdense,siltysandtosandysiltwithtracetosomegravel.Weinterpretthisunitastill.(‘nit2:Th,’lth’tocompletelyWeuthc’redSdtsione7Saiidstone—Belowthefill,ourboringsencounteredlightbrowntoyellowishbrown,siltysandthatextendedtoatleasttheterminationdepthsof11V2andIIfeetinBH—IandBH—2.respectively.Thisunitisloosetomediumdenseindensityfromapproximatel\3iëettoabout3andI0feet.andthenbecomesverydense.Basedonthetextureobservedonthesoilsamples.‘.einterpretthisunitashighlytocompletelyweatheredsandstone.ThisunitappearsconsistentwiththemappedTuk\tilaFormation.Groundaterwasnotencounteredintheboringsduringdrilling.Iloever.verymoistsoilwasobservedbetween2to5ICetintheboringsduringdrilling.Localizedwaterhearingfracturesmay’hepresentithinthe‘1’ukilaFormationand/orperchedwatermahepresentontopoftheIuktilaFormation.Itshouldhenotedalsothatgroundaterelevationsandseepageratesarelikelytovarydependingontheseason.localsubsurfaceconditions,andotherfactors.Groundaterlevelsandseepaueratesarenormallyhighestduringthewinterandearlyspring.SITESTABILITYBasedonourfieldobservationsohexistingsitefeatures.thegeneraltopograph’atthesiteand\ieinitv.andtheresultsob’oursuhsurliceexplorations,itisouropinionthatthesubjectsiteiselohall’stableinitscurrentconfiguration.Furthermore.itisalsoouropinionthattheproposedretaildcclopmentasplanned‘illnotdecreasethesitestahlIitorad\erselimpactthe%ubjcctI2s\\surtIn\d—kilRptPiie3Pdn(1.0.nc, GeotechnicalEngineeringReportProposedRetailDevelopment—60SWSunsetBoulevard.Renton.WAOctober30,2013bearingpressureisfordeadplusliveloads,Forallowablestressdesign,therecommendedbearingpressuremaybeincreasedbyone-thirdfortransientloading.suchaswindorseismicf’orces.Continuousandindividualspreadfootingsshouldhaveminimumwidthsof’I$and24inches,respectively.Footingsdesignedandconstructedinaccordancewiththeaboverecommendationsshouldexperiencetotalsettlementof’lessthanoneinchandditierentialsettlementoflessthan‘/2inch.Mostoftheanticipatedsettlementshouldoccurduringconstructionasdeadloadsareapplied.LateralResistance—Lateralloadsonthestructuremayberesistedbypassiveearthpresstiredevelopedagainsttheembeddedportionofthefoundationsystemandbyfrictionalresistancebetweenthebottomofthefoundationandthesupportingstihgradesoils.Forfootingsbearingonthedensenativeweatheredrockorcompactedsand/strticttiralfill,africtionalcoefficientof0.3maybeusedtoevaluateslidingresistancedevelopedbetweentheconcreteandthecompactedsuhgradematerial.Passivesoilresistancemaybecalculatedusinganequivalentfluidtveightof’300pcf.assumingproperlycompactedstructural1111willbeplacedagainstthefootings.Theabovevaluesincludeahctorofsafetyof1.5.Unlesscoveredbypavementsorslabs.thepassiveresistanceintheupper12inchesofsoilshouldheneglected.PerimeterFootingDrainfootingdrainsshouldbeinstalledaroundtheperimeterof’thebuildings.atorjustbelowtheinvertoftheFootings.Undernocircumstancesshouldroof’downspoutdrainlinesbeconnectedtothefootingdrain5)stems.Roofdonspoutsmustheseparatelytightlinedtoappropriatedischargelocations.Cleanoutsshouldheinstalledatstrategiclocationstoallo\\forperiodicmaintenanceofthefootingdrainanddownspotittightlinesystems.FootingSubgradePreparation—AllfootingexcavationsshouldbetrimmedneatandFootingstihgradesshouldhecarefullyprepared.TheadequacyoffootingsubgradeshouldbeverifiedbyarepresentativeofPanGLO.priortoplacingformsorrebar.Softsoilsencounteredatthefootingstihgradelevelshouldheover-e\catatedtocompetenthearingsoilandtheoer—excaationsshouldhehacktilleditlilean—mixconcrete.ControlDensit\Fill(CI)F)orstructuralfill.Weanticipatetheover—excavationof’footingsuhgradesoilna\heneededinthelocaliiedareas.FootingexcavationsshouldheohservedbyPanGEQtoconfirmthatthee\posedlootingsuhgradeisconsistentwiththeexpectedconditionsandadequatetost1pp)rtthedesignhearingpressure.usnsiflkd—I<ciuunRpPace5Paii([.f).tic. GeotechnicalEngineeringReportProposedRetailDevelopment—60SWSunsetBoulevard,Renton,WAOctober30.2013mayalsoheconsideredasasourceofstructuraltill.Useofrecycledconcreteasstructuralfillshouldbeapprovedbythegeotechnicalengineer.STRtJCTLRALFILLPLACEMENToCoMPACTIoNStructuraltillshouldbemoistureconditionedtowithinabout3percentofoptimummoisturecontent,placedinloose,horizontalliftslessthan8inchesinthickness,andsystematicallycompactedtoadenseandrelativelyunyieldingconditionandtoatleast95percentofthemaximumdrydensity,asdeterminedusingtestmethodASTMD1557.Dependingonthetypeofcompactionequipmentusedanddependingonthetypeoffillmaterial,itmaybenecessarytodecreasethethicknessofeachliftinordertoachieveadequatecompaction.PanGEOcanprovideadditionalrecommendationsregardingstructuralfillandcompactionduringconstrtiction.WETWEA[HEREARTHWORKInouropinion,theproposedsiteconstructionmaybeaccomplishedduringtvetweather(suchasinwinter)withoutadverselyaffectingthesitestability.However,earthworkconstructionperibrmedduringthedriersummermonthslikelywillhemoreeconomical.Winterconstructionwillrequiretheimplementationofbestmanagementerosionandsedimentationcontrolpracticestoreducethechanceofoff-sitesedimenttransport.Someofthesitesoilscontainahighpercentageoffinesandaremoisturesensitive.Anytootingsuhgradesoilsthatbecomesoftenedeitherbydisturbanceorrainfallshouldberemovedandreplacedwithstructuralfill,ControlledDensityFill(CDF).orlean-mixconcrete.Generalrecommendationsrelativetoearthworkperformedinwetconditionsarepresentedbelow:•Sitestripping,excavationandsuhgradepreparationshouldhefollowedpromptlybytheplacementandcompactionofcleanstructurallillorUDE:•Thesiteandtpeofconstructionequipmentusedmahavetobelimitedtopreventsoilciisturhance;•Thegroundstirfacewithintheconstructionareashouldhegradedtopromoterun—oilofsurtheeaterandtopreventthepondingofater:•I3aIesofstraandorgeotextilesilttc’neesshouldbestrategicallylocatedtocontrolerosionandthemovementofsoil:-2ootoS\Sun’iflkJ.-IO.nkRtPaeC)Panül()_Inc.
