Associated Earth Sciences Inc. (AESI) was on-site today to observe footing subgrade for an off – site retaining wall completed as part
of the frontage improvements associated with the project.
Retaining Wall Footing Check
AESI arrived on site for a footing subgrade check for a cast in place site retaining wall up to approximately 4 feet tall at an off – site
location within the frontage improvement area associated with this project (clips below). At the time of our arrival the footing area
had been prepared by cutting to grade and placing a crushed rock levelling pad approximately 3 inches thick. Soil exposed in the
excavation sidewall consisted of very dense lodgement till. Observation of the foundation subgrade with a ½ inch hand probe
showed moderate resistance in the crushed rock levelling pad, and very dense conditions in the underlying native soils. The
subgrade area is suitable in our opinion for support of the planned retaining wall. Any soft or wet soils that accumulate above the
subgrade AESI observed today should be removed prior to placing concrete.
