THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences Inc. (AESI) was on-site today in the morning to perform compaction tests over electrical trench backfill.
Electrical Trench Backfill
Prior to our arrival, the contractor backfilled 3’ electrical trenches around the site. The backfill was placed and compacted using a
vibratory hoe pac. In most areas, the contractor used a 2 1/4” ballast for backfill. AESI assessed those areas utilizing a ½” diameter
steel soils probe that did not penetrate more than an inch. In some sections (Fig. 1), the contractor backfilled using trench spoils
composed of native till. AESI performed compaction tests on the native fill using a nuclear densometer gauge that met or exceeded the
minimum compaction requirements of 95%.
