Purpose
Open House #2 provided attendees to an opportu-
nity to review the project and provide additional
input on the Regional Trail Connection options, the
Draft Trail and Bicycle Network, and the identifica-
tion of critical intersections in the network. These
topics were explained in a presentation, along with
a summary of the community input received to
date, and an explanation of low stress facility types,
such as neighborhood greenways and protected
bike lanes. Twenty-six people attended the open
house.
Presentation
Connie Reckord (MR) and David Saxen (MR) pre-
sented an approximately 20-minute long Power-
Point show covering the following topics:
• Project Review
-Overview
-Project schedule & public outreach
• Summary of Community Input
• Plan Components
-Network Hierarchy
-Facility Types
-Intersections

Workshop and Discussion
Participants were encouraged to record addition-
al comments on hard-copy drafts of the Regional
Trail options, Trail and Bicycle Network and Critical
Intersections.
Presentation Comments and Questions
• Will Renton consider getting a bike share pro-
gram? This should be in the plan.
• Wayfinding is important because it is difficult to
find your way through the city to different trails
and routes.
• Tough for commuter cyclists to route-find.
• Hope that the plan will result in digital route
maps and GPS data that bicyclists can use.
• Important for trails to have identity. Spray paint
on trails?
• Relying on the sidewalk to ride a bicycle is atro-
cious because of plants. Better maintenance is
needed.
• Many sidewalks are not ADA accessible.
• Lake Washington Loop Trail will be designed by
the city, but the regional trails will be designed
by King County.
• What is the status of the Honey Creek Trail and
May Creek Trails?

Eastside Rail Corridor Alignment
“Preferred alignment along Houser Way”
“Houser Way is a good potential trail route from
Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park to the
Cedar River Trail. Houser Way to Sunset
Boulevard has low traffic volume and parking
along the east side of the road is not in high
demand.”
SW 7th Street
“Walking along 7th Street would not be as
pleasant as walking along the RR ROW (Lake to
Sound trail alignments)”
“Trail here (Lake to Sound trail along 7th Street)
is not good ‐ too many delays and conflicts.”
“Need road diet (on SW 7th Street) in 2017”

if possible”
“Important to use RR ROW for Lake to Sound to
Cedar River Trail”
“Prefer lake to Sound along BNSF”
Sam Chastain Trail
“Complete (the proposed) Sam Chastain (trail)
segment.”
“Make this happen! (the Sam Chastain trail
segment)”
“Complete Sam Chastain Trail”

Intersections
“Problem for cyclists on road crossings (along
the Cedar River Trail in the downtown)”
“Difficult turns, unclear route (at Houser Way
and Lake Washington Boulevard)”
“Fix the intersections of N 8th and N 6th
Streets at Logan Avenue N”
Burnett Linear Park
“Complete Burnett Linear Park to Cedar River;
reconfigure parking”
“Burnett as a green space with grass,

Walking Problem Spots
“Need signage and wayfinding
to connect to Cedar River trail”
“116th has significant foot
traffic, a speeding problem,
and few sidewalks”
“Lack of sidewalks”
“No sidewalk for kids walking to
school (Maplewood)”
“Missing ADA ramp”
“No Crosswalks ‐ Dangerous
Intersection”
SUMMARY OF COMMUNITY INPUTInteractive Map

Barriers to Biking:
1. Motor vehicles travel too fast
2. Too many motor vehicles
3. Parts of my route are too stressful or
dangerous
4. No bicycle facilities (e.g. paved shoulders,
bike lanes, shared use trails)
Biking Improvements Needed:
1. Safer street intersections
2. Wide paved shoulders on roads
3. Off‐street paved shared use paths
4. More dedicated bike facilities, such as bike
lanes
5. Calm residential streets that are
designated and designed for biking (aka
“Greenways” or “Bicycle Boulevards”)

PLAN COMPONENTS
Facility Types – Neighborhood Greenway
•Typically residential streets that
parallel an arterial route
providing a "lower stress" option.
•Bicycle travel given priority over
vehicular travel.
•Low vehicle volumes and speeds
through traffic calming
treatments.
•Safe and convenient crossings of
arterial streets.
•Signs and pavement markings.
•“Green” infrastructure.
