Limitations: The presence of our field representative at the site is to provide our client with a source of professional advice, opinions, and recommendations based upon the field representative’s observations and testing of the contractor’s work. Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for
obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible
for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations,
is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager.
ESNW rep was onsite to observe and test vault backfill and storm main on NE 40th St.
Vault Backfill
Upon arrival onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor place the footing drain around the exterior of the
footing. Rep observed the contactor placing a 4” perforated drainage pipe around the base of the footing,
bedded in 7/8th inch washed rock. The washed rock and drainage pipe were wrapped in geotextile
nonwoven fabric. ESNW rep observed the contractor placing another drain approximately 5’ above the
footing drain, also wrapped in washed rock and geotextile nonwoven fabric. ESNW rep observed the
contractor placing 12” lifts of grey sandy silt with gravel and compact it with a diesel sled compactor.
ESNW rep took compaction tests and observed adequate compaction of at least 95% of the proctor at
the tested locations. Please see map and table below.
Storm Main
ESNW rep observed the contractor had excavated approximately two and a half feet deep into native
soil. Rep observed the contractor place the pipe and backfill the excavation with 1 ¼” minus crushed
rock. ESNW rep observwd the contractor spray the rock with water and compact it with a hoe pack.
ESNW rep took compaction tests and observed adequate comapction of at least 95% of the modified
proctor at the tested locations. Please see map and table below.
