HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE_ Renton ES#16 Signal Pole UpdateGood morning Mitchell, The RFI is approved under 2 conditions and 1 suggestion: Condition #1: Per WSDOT, the foundation height can only be 18”, not 24”. The horizontal location works to the edge of the front of the curb as described (similar to the nearby light base) but cannot extrude any further because we need to maintain 5’ of sidewalk due to federal funding requirements. Condition #2: The current signal pole cannot be used in lieu as a temporary signal once the intersection is brough online since moving it will require shutting off the intersection again. Please provide a temporary signal at this corner similar to what is pictured below that is occurring on the City’s Rainier Ave project: Suggestion #1: We suggest chipping and removal of existing foundation to 30” versus 18” so you can intercept the 3” conduit and stub it to the new signal pole foundation which could result in less sidewalk/panel reconstruction. Hi Michael, Following the discussion you had with the school district last week on the traffic signal pole base at 10th and Duvall, we wrote a confirming RFI and received the attached drawing revision from TENW. We are proceeding with this direction. Can you please review and make sure that the drawing matches what you discussed with the School District last week? The new access panel may not even get approved by the pole manufacturer… and really this mistake just needs to be fixed in the correct manner…. with a new foundation. The suggested and agreed upon path is: Remove the poured pedestrian curb and potentially sidewalk panel, route new conduit from signal handhole to new pole location approx. 3-4 feet south of mispoured foundation. Excavate, form and pour new foundation (with survey done for location and City of Renton Approval – may need TENW revised drawing for location) with amount exposed above grade per the official RFI response. Temp in signal pole as is on mispoured foundation with City of Renton approval with the understanding that pole will get move to permanent location on new foundation. Once foundation is cured, move signal pole to new foundation. Chip down mispoured foundation 18” below grade per City of Renton standards. Restore existing slope. Repour sidewalk panel and back pedestrian curb to match the other pole locations on Duvall. On day of signal pole move to permanent foundation, this would require Police officers and traffic control for the signal being dark. Attached is a rough marked up picture to help illustrate. Survey and height of exposed foundation would likely need City of Renton approval – either in the field or on a revised drawing from TENW. If they jump on this quickly, we have time. Even if we need to have them lease a temporary light structure for a couple weeks into school, but the new foundation could be poured soon. If we go this route, the city is much more amenable to some temp allowances than the path we were going down, but still have not made any progress. Andrew from our office was on the call as well and can jump on a call with me or teams/zoom for further discussion in the morning or sometime tomorrow is we need to walk through in more detail. Hi Traci, Should Cornerstone and Sare/Transportation Systems be at the meeting today? John and I spoke to Jeremiah with Sare yesterday – the attached email should catch you up. I’m not familiar with all the history on this, but here’s what I know right now: * The signal pole has been installed on top of the foundation. Our expectation is that the signal pole can be signed off with the stipulation that we will need to come back and correct the pole. * We will need a design for the proposed retaining wall. Our thought is that this should come from TenW after they coordinate with the City of Renton * We left a business card at the residence and have not heard back. The homeowner was not present when we knocked on the door. It’s not clear to me at this point if the fence will need to be moved or not. * Transportation Systems needs to hear back from the manufacturer about what is possible for relocating the hand hole.
