1. All work materials shall be in conformance with the standards and specifications of the City of Renton cad the latest
edition of the WSDOT/APWA Standards and Specifications, as approved by the City of Renton- A set of approved plans shall be kept
on site at all times during construction.
2- The hours of work in the street right -of- shall be limited to 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM on weekdays unless otherwise approved in writing by
the Department of Public Works at 235-2635. All street closures, partial or full, shall be approved by the Department of Public Works

6. Gate valves shall conform to AWWA C500 and shall be iron body, bronzed -mounted, double disc with bronze wedging device and O-ring
stuffing box. Valves shall be designed for a minimum water operating pressure of 200 PSL Gate valves shall be Clow List 14, Mueller
Company NO. A2380, or M&H. All valves 12' in diameter and larger, shall be installed in a vault- See water standard detail for 12,
Gate Valve Assembly Vault and 1' Bypass Installation.
T Fire hydrants shall be Corey type (opening with the pressure) conforming to AWWA C-504-80 with a 6 inch inlet and a M-V.O. of 5
inches, two 2-k2 inch hose nozzles with national standard 7 inch, 60 de V. threads, O.D- thread 4S75 and toot diameter 4.6263, 1- 4
inch pentagon operating nut opened by turning counter clockwise (left

9a_ All water mains and services shall be pressure tested to a minimum of 200 PSI or ISO PSI over operatutg pressure, in accordance with the
specifications of the City of Renton and the Washington State Health Department. All pressure testing shall be done in the presence of
a representative of the City of Renton.
9b. All water mains and services shall be disinfected by the injection of a 50 ppm (Minimum concentration) chlorine water solution Dryry
Calcium Hypochlorite shall NOT be placed in the pipe as lad. (loran shall be metered/injected u accordance with Section
3(17-
112)E or 7-113(12)F of the Standard Specifications referenced in 1 above.
10. A pmoonstruction conference is required prior to any construction. A minimum of 3 (three) woriong days notice is required for
scbeduling. Prior to scheduling the precon a permit information sheet must be supplied to the Utility Engineer's Office. Twenty -tour
hour notice will be required prior to starting new construction.
11. It shall be the contractor's responsibility to secure all necessary permits prior to starting construction.
12. Installation of corporate stops, water services, lines and meters shall not be done until all service agreements, meter applications,
construction permits, and payment of fees have been trade to the City of Renton_
13. All Connection to e2asting mains to be accomplished by the City of Renton, except wet taps which ma be made by approved wet tap
Contractors with prior approval of from the Department of Public Works_ All necessary excavation anymaterials to be supplied by the
contractor and be on -site prior to Gry notifications.
14. Inspection will be accomplished by a representative of the City of Renton_ It shall be the contractor's responsibility to notify the Utility
Department 24 hours in advance of baclling all construction. The contractor as well as the Engineers shall keep as -built drawings.
L. Contractor to provide plugs and temporary blow -off assemblies for testing and purity acceptance prior to final tie-in.
16 . Ali joint restraint systems (shackle rods, nuts, bolts, etc.) shall be as manufactured by the Star Manufacturing Companv of Columbus

17. Asphalt and concrete street paving shall be sawcut to a minimum depth of two inches. Oil mat strtets may be spade cut. All surface
concrete, pavement, sidewalks, curb, gutters, and driveway approaches shall be sawcut to a minimum depth of two inches or removed to
an existing expansion joint.
18. A temporary cold mix asphalt patch shall be placed on the day of initial excavation with a permanent, sealed patch to be pplaced, to City
of Renton policy, within ten days. Call for subgrade inspection prior to placement of final patch. Trenches will not be left open over
night without prior written approval of the Inspector.
19. For City projects such as telemetry conduit, the PVC pipe used shall be schedule 40 in unimproved areas and schedule 80 under
improved areas. All chemical process lines shall be schedule 80 PVC pipe

UNDERGROUND FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS
1. PIPE AND FITTINGS:
A. Cast Iron Pipe and Fittings:
Cast iron pipe shall be new Class 140, thin cement lined, conforming
to Federal Specification VV-P-421b. Epoxy lined pipe will not be
approved.
B. Cast iron pipe shall be Type II, Push -on Joint or Type III,
Mechanical Joint. Type II pipe shall be furnished with a single
rubber ring gasket and suitable lubricant to effect the seal. Type
II pipe shall be furnished with mechanical joint of the stuffing box
type, including rubber gasket, cast-iron gland, and tee -head bolts
and nuts to effect the seal.
C. Cast iron fittings for use with Type II and Type III pipe shall be
cast iron mechanical joint type, short body cement lined, conforming
to AVVA Specification Clll-53 (ASA A21,11-1953). Cast iron
mechanical joint fittings shall be furnished, complete with rubber
gaskets, cast iron glands, and bolts and nuts. Cast iron flanged
fittings for use on Type II or Type III pipe shall be class 125
conforming to ASA Specification B16a. Cast iron flanged fittings
shall be furnished complete with gaskets, bolts, and nuts.
2. GATE VALVES:
A. Gate valves shall conform with the requirements of AWWA Standard
Specifications for gate valves for ordinary water works service.
They shall be iron body, bronze mounted, parallel seat, double disc
valves with bronze wedging devices. The valves shall be non -rising
stem, open to the left, and shall be equipped with standard 2" square
operating nuts.
3. FIRE HYDRANTS:
A. Fire hydrants shall conform to AVVA Standards except that hydrants
shall be furnished with o-ring stuffing box and main valve opening
shall be 5" diameter, unless otherwise specified. Installation shall
be made in accordance with standard detailN. Hydrants shall be
painted after installation with two coats of approved exterior enamel
paint. Shut-off valve shall be provided.
B. Hydrants shall be furnished with two (2) NST hose ports, I PCT Pumper
Connection, and operating nuts as measured from point to flat.
(Verify with local water district before ordering.) Verify pumper
parts with local fire chief.
4. VALVE MARKER POSTS:
A concrete valve marker post shall be furn}shed and installed as directed
with eaehlgailp valve. The concrete marker pest shall have a 4" minimum
square section and a minimum length of 42" with beveled edges and
containing at least one (1) 3/8" diameter bar of reinforcirtg steel.
Markers shall be placed as directed by the Engineers and set so as to
leave 18" exposed above grade.
5. FIRE HYDRANT GUARD POSTS:
Concrete fire hydrant guard post shall be furnished and installed with
fire hydrants as directed by the Engineer.
6. PIPELINE:
Pipeline shall be thoroughly sterilized by the Contractor. Sanitary test
samples will be taken in accordance with State Health Department
regulations. Resterilization will be required when unsatisfactory samples
are encountered.
7. TESTS:
Piping shall be tested with water at a pressure of 50 psig higher than
line pressure but not less than 150 psig for 8 hours. Any defects will be
corrected and tests repeated.
