GENERAL NOTES
1. BEFORE ANY CONSTRUCT/ON OR DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY OCCURS, A
PRE -CONSTRUCTION MEETING MUST BE HELD WITH THE CITY OF
RENTON DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, DESIGN ENGINEER.

NOTES:
1. All work materials shall be in conformance with the standards and specifications of the City of Renton Utility Department and the latest
edition of the WSDOT/APWA Standards and Specifications, as approved by the City of Renton. A set of approved plans shall be kept
on site at all times during construction.
2. The hours of work in the street right-of-way shall be limited to 8:30 AM to 3.-30 PM on weekdays unless otherwise approved in writing by
the Department of Public Works at 235-2635. All street closures, partial or full, shall be approved by the Deportment of Public Works
24 hours in advance. The Po/ice Deportment, Fire Department, and 917 shall be notified 24 hours /n advance.
J. All locations of ex/sting ut///ties shown are approx/mate and shall be the contractors respons/bi/ity to verify the true and correct
location so as to ovoid damage or disturbance. For utility locate call 48-Hour Locators, 1-800-424-5555
4. A preconstruct/on conference is requ/red prior to any construction. A m/n/mum of 3 (three) work/ng days notice is required for
scheduling. Prior to scheduling the precon a permit /reformat/on sheet must be supplied to the Ut/lity Engineer's Office. Twenty-four
hour notice w/l/ be requ/red prior to starting new construction.
5. It shall be the contractor's respos/bil/ty to secure all necessary permits prior to start/ng construction.
6. Inspection w/Il be accomplished by a representative of the City of Renton, It shall be the contractors responsibility to notify the Utility
Department 24 hours /n advance of backf//l/ng all construction. The contractor as well as the Eng/neers shall keep as-bu/lt drawings.
7. Asphalt and concrete street paving shall be sawcut to a mire/mum depth of two Inches. Oil mat streets may be spode cut. All surface
concrete, pavement, sidewalkscurb, gutters, and driveway approaches shall be sawcut to a min/mum depth of two inches or removed to
to an existing expansion joint.
S. A Temporary cold mix asphalt patch shall be placed on the day of initial excavation with a permanent, sealed patch to be placed, to City
of Renton policy, within ten days. Co// sub
grade Inspection prior to placement of f/na/ patch. Trenches w/il not be left open over
night without prior written approval of the inspector.

1. IN WIDENING AREAS, THE EXISTING PAVEMENT EDGE SHALL BE "SAW -CUT" TO LEAVE A JOIN POINT.
ANY TRAFFIC STRIPING REMOVED OR DAMAGED DURING WIDENING WORK SHALL BE REPLACED IN KIND
OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR.
2. COMPACTION TESTS ON SUBGRADE AND ROCKGRADE SHALL BE REQUIRED. THE NUMBER OF TESTS
SHALL BE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CITY INSPECTOR. ALL TESTS AS REQUIRED SHALL BE AT THE
EXPENSE OF THE CONTRACTOR OR DEVELOPER THROUGH ANY LICENSED TESTING LAB OF HIS CHOICE.
THE MINIMUM COMPACTION FOR THE TOP 24" OF THE SUBGRADE, SHALL BE 95% OF MAXIMUM RELATIVE
DENSITY. BELOW THAT LEVEL THE MINIMUM COMPACTION SHALL BE 90% OF MAXIMUM RELATIVE DENSITY.
ROCK SURFACES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM COMPACTION OF 95% OF MAXIMUM RELATIVE DENSITY.
3. ADJUSTMENT OF CATCH BASIN LIDS OR GRATES, MANHOLE LIDS MONUMENT CASES, VALVE BOXES, ETC.,
SHALL BE THE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR OR DEVELOPER AS REQUIRED AND SHALL BE ADJUSTED
AFTER THE FINAL LIFT OF ASPHALT HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
4. FOR ALL ROADWAY CLASSES GREATER THAN THE NEIGHBORHOOD COLLECTOR, THE PAVEMENT SECTIONS
SHALL BE DETERMINED USING AN APPROVED METHOD FOR COMPUTING PAVEMENT THICKNESS.
THESE CALCULATIONS SHALL BE SUGGESTED BY APPROPRIATE GEOTECHNICAL TESTING OF THE SUPPORTING
MATERIALS. IN NO CASE SHALL THE PAVEMENT SECTION BE LESS THAN THAT FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD
COLLECTOR.
