Purpose
To retain sediment from very small disturbed
areas by construction of a temporary barrier
made from residue materials available from
clearing and grubbing the site.
Conditions Where Practice Apples
Below disturbed areas subject to sheet and rill
erosion, where enough residue material is
available for construction of such a barrier.
Note, does not replace the need For a sediment
trap or pond,
Design Criteria/Specifications
o See Figure 5.4,40 for detail.
o Minimum height = 3 feet,
maximum height = 5 Feet.
o Minimum width = 5 Feet at its base,
maximum width = 15 feet,
o A filter fence anchored over the
brush berm may be required by
BALD to enhance the filtration
ability of the barrier.

Knockouts may be on all 4 sides with maximum diameter
of 20". Knockouts may be either round or "D" shape.
Pipe to be installed in factory supplied knockouts.
Knockout or cutout hole size is equol to pipe outer
diameter plus catch basin wall thickness.
The maximum depth from the finished grode to the pipe
invert is 5'-0".
The toper on the sides of the precast base section and
riser section shall not exceed 1/2"/ft.
