STORM DRAINAGE NOTES
1. ALL WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH COUNTY
STANDARDS AND THE MOST CURRENT COPY OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROAD, BRIDGE AND MUNICIPAL CONSTRUCTION
(WSDOT/APWA) AND AS AMENDED BY THE COUNTY OR THE STATE.
2. TEMPORARY EROSION/WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION MEASURES SHALL BE
REQUIRED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 1-07.15, AS MODIFIED BY THE APWA
SUPPLEMENT, OF THE CURRENT STATE OF WASHINGTON STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS.
3. SHOULD THE TEMPORARY EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL
MEASURES AS SHOWN ON THIS DRAWING NOT PROVE ADEQUATE TO CONTROL
EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION, THE APPLICANT / CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL
ADDITIONAL FACILITIES AS NECESSARY TO PROTECT ADJACENT PROPERTIES,
SENSITIVE AREAS, NATURAL WATER COURSES, AND/OR STORM DRAINAGE
SYSTEMS.
4. CALL THE UNDERGROUND LOCATE LINE 1-800-424-5555 A MINIMUM OF
48 HOURS PRIOR TO ANY EXCAVATIONS.
5. THE STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO
APPROVED PLANS ON FILE WITH THE CITY. ANY SIGNIFICANT DEVIATION FROM
THE APPROVED PLANS WILL REQUIRE WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE CITY OF
RENTON.
6. A COPY OF THE APPROVED STORM WATER PLANS MUST BE ON THE JOB
SITE WHENEVER CONSTRUCTION IS IN PROGRESS.
7. ALL EROSION CONTROL AND STORM WATER FACILITIES SHALL BE
REGULARLY INSPECTED AND MAINTAINED BY THE CONTRACTOR DURING
CONSTRUCTION.
8. IT SHALL BE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO OBTAIN
STREET USE AND OTHER RELATED OR REQUIRED PERMITS PRIOR TO ANY
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY IN THE MUNICIPALITY'S RIGHT-OF-WAY, IT SHALL
ALSO BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO OBTAIN ALL REQUIRED
PERMITS PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ABIDE BY
ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL & SAFETY WHEN WORKING IN THE
ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY.

CITY OF RENTON IN THE EVENT OR DISCOVERY OF POOR SOILS, STANDING
WATER, GROUNDWATER, OR SEVERE DISCREPANCIES FROM SOIL LOG
DESCRIPTIONS AS NOTED ON THESE PLANS.
10. ALL DRAINAGE STRUCTURES, SUCH AS CATCH BASINS AND MANHOLES,
NOT LOCATED WITHIN A TRAVELED ROADWAY OR SIDEWALK, SHALL HAVE SOLID
LOCKING LIDS, ALL DRAINAGE STRUCTURES ASSOCIATED WITH A PERMANENT
RETENTION/DETENTION FACILITY SHALL HAVE SOLID LOCKING LIDS.
11. PIPE MATERIALS SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED ON THE PLANS, IF NOT
SPECIFIED ON THE PLANS THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CHOOSE FROM THE
FOLLOWING LIST. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL UTILIZE ONLY ONE PIPE MATERIAL
TYPE FOR THE SAME SIZE PIPE BETWEEN STRUCTURES. PIPE JOINTS MUST
BE OF THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE PIPE AND PIPE GASKETS ARE TO BE
PROVIDED.
A. PVC CONFORMING TO ASTM D 3034, SDR 35., MIN. COVER 3 FEET.
B. 12-INCH AND SMALLER, PLAIN CONCRETE STORM SEWER PIPE

3' MAXIMUM SPACING BY 5/8" DIA. STAINLESS STEEL EXPANSION BOLTS OR EMBEDDED 2" IN WALL.
4. THE RESTRCTOR/SEPARATOR SHALL BE FABRICATED FROM .060" ALUMINUM, OR .064 ALUMINIZED STEEL,

GALVANIZED STEEL SHALL HAVE TREATMENT 1.
5. OUTLET SHALL BE CONNECTED TO CULVERT OR STORM PIPE WITH A STANDARD COUPLING BAND FOR
CORRUGATED METAL PIPE, OR GROUTED INTO THE BELL OF CONCRETE PIPE.
6. THE VERTICAL RISER STEM OF THE RESTRICTOR/SEPARATOR SHALL BE THE SAME DIAMETER AS THE HORIZONTAL
OUTLET PIPE, WITH AN 8" MINIMUM DIAMETER.
7. FRAME AND LADDER OR STEPS ARE TO BE OFFSET SO THAT:
A. CLEANOUT GATE IS VISIBLE FROM TOP.
B. CLIMB -DOWN SPACE IS CLEAR OF RISER AND GATE.
C. FRAME IS CLEAR OF CURB (IF ANY EXISTS).
8. MULTI -ORIFICE ELBOWS MAY BE LOCATED AS SHOWN OR ALL ON ONE SIDE OF RISER TO ASSURE LADDER
CLEARANCE. SIZE OF ELBOWS AND PLACEMENT TO BE DETERMINED BY THE ENGINEER.
9. RESTRICTOR PLATES WITH ORIFICE AS SPECIFIED IN THE CONTRACT PLANS, OMIT PLATE IF FOR OIL
POLLUTION ONLY. SPECIFIED OPENING TO BE CUT ROUND AND SMOOTH.
10. CLEANOUT/SHEAR GATE:
-ALUMINUM ALLOY PER ASTM B-26-ZG-32A OR CAST IRON ASTM A48 CLASS 30B AS REQUIRED.
-LIFT HANDLE EITHER SOLID OR TUBING WITH ADJUSTABLE HOOK AS REQUIRED.
-NEOPRENE RUBBER GASKET REQUIRED BETWEEN RISER MOUNTING FLANGE AND GATE FLANGE.
-MATING SURFACES OF LID AND BODY TO BE MACHINED FOR PROPER FIT.
-FLANGE MOUNTING BOLTS SHALL BE 3/8" DIAMETER STAINLESS STEEL.
11. ALTERNATE CLEANOUT/SHEAR GATES TO THE DESIGN SHOWN ON DWG. D-27 ARE ACCEPTABLE, PROVIDED
THEY MEET THE MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS ABOVE AND HAVE A SIX BOLT, 10 3/8" BOLT CIRCLE FOR
BOLTING TO THE FLANGE CONNECTION.
12. CLEANOUT GATE SHALL NOT OPEN BEYOND THE CLEAR OPENING AS SHOWN ON "MAX OPENING OF GATE"
ON DWG. BR05 BY LIMITING HINGE MOVEMENT, STOP TAB, OR SOME OTHER DEVICE.
13. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED ON PLANS, ALL ROOF DRAINS SHALL BE
RIGID 6-INCH PVC OR LARGER CONFORMING TO ASTM D 3034, SDR 35.
SUFFICIENT CLEANOUTS SHALL BE INSTALLED SO THE SYSTEM IS EASILY
MAINTAINED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP A DIMENSIONED RECORD OF ALL
PIPES AND CLEANOUTS AND SUBMIT IT TO THE OWNER AND/OR CES NW, INC.
UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK.
14. ALL BUILDING ROOF DRAIN DOWN SPOUTS, UNLESS OTHERWISE
SPECIFIED, SHALL BE CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO THE MAIN STORM
DRAINAGE CONVEYANCE SYSTEM THROUGH AN UNDERGROUND PIPE
SYSTEM.
15. CONSTRUCTION OF GROUNDWATER DEWATERING SYSTEM SHALL_ BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE WSDOT STANDARD SPECIFICATION 6-02.3(6)C,
16. ROCK FOR EROSION PROTECTION OF ROADWAY DITCHES, WHERE REQUIRED,
MUST BE OF SOUND QUARRY ROCK, PLACED TO A DEPTH OF ONE -FOOT AND
MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS: FOUR TO EIGHT -INCHES
ROCK/40-70% PASSING; TWO TO FOUR -INCHES ROCK/30-40% PASSING; AND
-TWO INCHES ROCK/10-20% PASSING.
17. ISSUANCE OF THIS BUILDING PERMIT BY THE LOCAL JURISDICTION DOES
NOT RELIEVE THE OWNER OF THE CONTINUING LEGAL OBLIGATION AND/OR
LIABILITY CONNECTED WITH STORM AND SURFACE WATER DISPOSITION. THE
LOCAL JURISDICTION DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY OBLIGATION FOR THE PROPER
FUNCTIONING AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SYSTEM PROVIDED.
18. A MINIMUM NUMBER OF YARD DRAINS HAVE BEEN SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
ADDITIONAL YARD DRAINS MAY BE NEEDED FOR DETAILED GRADING AROUND
