PLANS • EXPERT TESTIMONY Member of International Society of Arboriculture and Society of American Foresters MEMO TO: Jill Ding Senior Planner City of Renton FROM: Joshua Sharpes Washington Forestry Consultants DATE: September 5, 2023 RE: Talbot Road Short Plat Tree Replacement Justification Ms. Ding: We have completed the City of Renton Tree Retention and Credit Worksheet for the Talbot Road Short Plat project. The calculated minimum density for the site is 42 tree credits and 5 significant trees. The current site plan retains 4 significant trees on the site totaling 32 tree credits. This is short of the minimum density by 1 tree and 10 tree credits. The plan proposes to plant 5 large trees to replace the 10 tree credit deficit and 6 large trees to replace the 30% requirement. All reasonable efforts have been taken to preserve trees utilizing the highest priority possible. The retention of higher priority trees is not feasible or practical for the project site due to the required improvements along Shattuck Avenue. The trees in this area that form a continuous canopy are in poor condition from topping. The location of remaining trees under improvements and the lot layout limits the number of trees that can be retained for this project. Please give us a call if you have any questions.
