Comments
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the Mountain View
Gardens project LUA23-000299 located at 2103 Talbot Rd S. The
Duwamish Tribe has received notice of the request for administrative
short plat approval for the subdivision of an existing 60,618 sq. ft.
(1.39 acre) parcel into six lots for the future construction of single-
family residences. If the committee or members of the Tribal Council
have concern of cultural or ecological damage, we will provide
comments, guidance and requests to preserve our territory and
history. If any ground disturbance or excavation is associated with the
project, we would request an IDP (inadvertent discovery plan). The
DAHP WISAARD predictive model indicates that an archaeological
survey is highly advised with a high risk of encountering cultural
resources. This is in an area the Duwamish Tribe considers culturally
significant and has a moderate probability to have unknown
archaeological deposits. We request that if any archaeological work
or monitoring is performed, we would like notification. Cultural and
archaeological resources are non-renewable and are best discovered
prior to ground disturbance. The Tribe would also like the
opportunity to be present if or when an archaeologist is on site in the
event that an artifact or cultural resource is encountered. In addition,
the Tribe strongly recommends that only native vegetation be used
for any proposed landscaping and that wetland and stream buffers are
maintained to enhance native avian life and native pollinators as well
as to mitigate seasonal urban flooding.
