Limitations: The presence of our field representative at the site is to provide our client with a source of professional advice, opinions, and recommendations based upon the field representative’s observations and testing of the contractor’s work. Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for
obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible
for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations,
is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager.
ESNW rep was onsite to observe proof roll of roads onsite, and probe sidewalk subgrade.
Proof roll
While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor use a fully loaded dump truck to slowly drive over roads
onsite. During the proof roll, ESNW rep observed some deflection on road A, and alley 2. ESNW rep
recommends the contractor over excavate approximately 12” from current grade. It is recommended that
an ESNW rep is present before backfill is placed to probe the subgrade. Fabric and 1 ¼” minus crushed
rock should be used for backfill once subgrade is observed by ESNW rep.
Sidewalk Subgrade
ESNW rep used a ½” steel T-probe to probe the subgrade of the sidewalk. ESNW rep observed the
subgrade to be saturated, and in need of over excavation. Rep recommends the contractor excavate
approximately 12” from the current grade to place 12” of crushed rock. ESNW rep will return to observe
over excavation.
