Limitations: The presence of our field representative at the site is to provide our client with a source of professional advice, opinions, and recommendations based upon the field representative’s observations and testing of the contractor’s work. Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for
obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible
for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations,
is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager.
As requested, ESNW rep was on site to observe an overexcavation and proof roll of the onsite roadway
subgrade and to observe sidewalk subgrade.
Overexcavation and Proof Roll Observations
ESNW rep. observed the contractor excavate approximately 6-inches of loose and saturated material
from two separate previously observed sections of the onsite roadway. ESNW rep. used a ½-inch steel
T-probe to observe the overexcavation subgrade. The subgrade was observed to be dense to very
dense. ESNW rep. then observed the contractor use a loaded dump truck to proof roll the two
overexcavated sections of the onsite roadway. The proof rolled areas were observed to be firm and
unyielding and considered suitable for the proposed roadway.
Sidewalk Subgrade Observation
ESNW rep. used a ½-inch steel T-probe to observe a section of sidewalk subgrade that was previously
observed to be loose and saturated. The sidewalk subgrade was observed to be medium dense to dense
and is considered suitable for the proposed sidewalk.
