ReasonforChange: ThisChangeOrderdoesnotincludeasignificantchangeasdefinedinSection1Ͳ04.4sincethe characteroftheWorkdoesnotdiffermateriallyinkindornaturefromthatinvolvedorincluded intheoriginalproposedconstruction.Specifically,formingandcastingreinforcedconcrete jackingpedestals,doweledintotheexistingpierseats. Uponsubmissionandreviewofthesubmittalfortheproposedbridgejackingsystem(Submittal No.16),itbecameapparentthatthecapacityoftheexistingreinforcedconcretepierseatsmay notbesufficientfortheanticipatedloadsfrombridgejackingoperations.AccordingtotheasͲ builtdrawingsforthebridge,themainpiersarenotmonolithic.Tosaveonmaterialcostsand/or reducethedeadloadofthemainpiers,theywereconstructedhollow,withperiodicinternal wallsconnectingfrontandbackwalls,exceptforthespan2bearinglocations.Novoidsare locatedatthespan2bearinglocations.Onlyasolidcolumnofconcrete.Outsideofthesecolumns therearehollowspaces.Thelocationsofjackingpointsweresuggestedintheconstruction contract,withthedetailstobeworkedoutinthefieldbythecontractor.Uponlocatingand establishingthejackingpointsitbecameapparentthattheywouldresideoverhollowspacesin themainpiers.Thispromptedacheckofthecapacityofthemainpierseatstoresistanticipated jackingforces.Themainpierseatsareapproximately2Ͳftthick,withonlyatopmatofsteel reinforcingbars.Areviewoftheconfigurationandcapacityofthemainpierseatsresultedina determinationthattheexistingcapacitymaynotbesufficientforanticipatedjackingforces. Theadditionofreinforcedconcretejackingpedestals(4total)increasesthecapacityinthemain pierseatstoresistanticipatedjackingforcesandimprovesthefactorofsafetyforbridgejacking operations.Theadditionoftheconcretejackingpedestalsrequiredadditionalstructuralanalysis forbridgejackingandpreparationofarevisedjackingplanforthebridgejacksandassociated hardware.
