Public Notice
The City of Renton Seeks Volunteers for Pro/Con Committees
Renton Initiative Measure No. 23-02, proposed the adoption of an ordinance “Concerning Labor Standards for Certain
Employees.” It is a voter-initiated measure that proposes the ordinance to either be adopted by the City Council or sent
to a public vote on the February 13, 2024, Special Election ballot.
In case the Council chooses to send the initiative for a public vote rather than adopting the proposed ordinance, the City
is seeking applicants to serve on pro and con committees. Up to 3 individuals may be appointed to serve on each
committee. If appointed, the committees will be responsible for drafting statements in support or opposition of the
proposed ordinance. The pro and con statements must be filed with the King County Elections office no later than
December 19, and will be published in the King County Elections voters’ pamphlet to assist voters in guiding their votes
on the measure.
The voter proposed ordinance, if approved by the Council or through the February 13, 2024, Special Election, would:
•Create a minimum wage based upon Tukwila’s voter approved minimum wage;
•Create regulations about when hours must be offered to part time employees before making new hires or
subcontracting work;
•Create rules against retaliation and penalties and civil causes of action for violations.

The committees are limited to three named individuals each, but committees may seek the advice of others. The
committees may include elected officials or City staff members, but the staff/officials must keep their campaign
activities completely separate from their public duties and may not use public facilities to support or oppose the ballot
measure. It is preferred that appointees to a committee are residents, employees, or business owners in the City of
Renton.
Anyone interested in applying for the pro or con committees can submit an application or call 425-430-6502 to be sent a
link to the application form. The deadline to submit the form is 4 p.m. on November 29, 2023. The form can be found
at this link:
Pro/Con Committee Application Form
Those interested in serving are asked to fill out the form, including selecting whether they are “pro” or “con,” and
adding a brief statement regarding why they would like to be appointed to the committee. Forms must be completed
fully by the interested party.
