Questions •Are you designing with mobile cell phone use in mind?
•Are we connecting and getting feedback from those with
physical/mental challenges?
•How current is the data we use? How often is it updated?
•How can the city influence housing? Are we maximizing
efforts to create affordable housing opportunities?
•What defines . . .? (women/minority-owned, median
income, etc.)
•Can we offer incentives or workshops? (navigation of
procurement process)

•Don’t assume and clearly define specific
government terminology.
•Consider what translation services may be needed
when conducting outreach.
•Get creative in making processes more accessible,
remove barriers.
•Continue utilizing most recent data when conducting
analysis.
•Submission of documents (business licenses, etc.)
requires a lot of writing using English, this may be a
deterrent.

Recommendations
•Work to reduce communication and process barriers.
•Expand translation services wherever possible.
•Increase utilization of QR codes.
•Be creative when providing outreach.
•Don’t assume and use proactive messaging.
•Solicit feedback from the end-user (i.e., businesses applying for or
renewing a license).
•Focus on life/safety.
•Provide clarity example; emphasize no tracking location or cell phone
usage data takes place using Code Red for emergency messages.
•Offer mentorships and workshops when applicable.
