NARRATIVE
On 02/08/23 at 1609 hours I arrived in the 11200 block of SE Petrovitsky RD in Renton Washington,
King County for an accident.
The initial information was not clear on how many vehicles were involved but stated a vehicle was on
fire. The call also stated a motorcyclist may be involved.
When I arrived I saw U1 which had veered of the roadway and ran into a group of trees. Based on
the heavy damage to U1 it was clear the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off
of the roadway and hit the tree. Also it completely severed the tree at the ground. The tree was only
being held up because it was leaning into telephone wires. The tree was property of the city of
Renton. U1 had heavy damage and was later towed by Gene Meyer because the driver was
transported to the hospital. It was a one vehicle accident and no motorcycle was involved.
A witness on scene stated that after the crash the driver was unconscious in the passenger side of
the vehicle. The driver woke up and the witness calmed him down until Fire arrived to treat him.
I spoke with the driver as he was getting treated by the fire authority. He was identified by
Washington driver's license. He was answering questions however it was clear he was not sure what
had happened. He did not realize he had just been in an accident. He kept telling me that he was in
a crash two weeks ago and not acknowledging what had just occurred. I was not able to smell any
AOB and the driver did not seem under the influence.
Officers spoke with witness Burdge. I called Burdge at a later date to confirm information. Mr Burdge
stated that he was Eastbound on Petro at a red light at 108th Ave SE. He was second in the line and
U1 was in front of him. U1 had gone into the crosswalk and Burdge had left a lot of room in between
vehicles realizing U1 may back up. U1 did back up slowly. U1 continued to back up and into the front
bumper of Burdge's vehicle. U1 then pulled forward and drove away through the red light. Burdge
saw U1 then pull over into a parking lot and thought he was going to stay there and maybe they would
exchange information. Burdge then realized the way U1 parked was two wheels in the parking lot but
two wheels (drivers side) on the sidewalk. Burdge saw U1 then start driving away like that on the
sidewalk Eastbound for 100 feet. U1 then got into the roadway and drove off at a high rate of speed.
This all occurred about two blocks from where U1 crashed.
Burdge pulled over into a lot and checked his vehicle for damage. There was no damage to his
vehicle and he did not want to be a victim of hit and run. While Burdge was looking at his vehicle he
heard all of the sirens and realized U1 may have caused a crash so he drove the two blocks over and
flagged Officers when they arrived.
Even though Burdge did not want to press charges for hit and run he witnessed U1 run a red light,
parked on a sidewalk, drive a distance on a sidewalk, drive away at a hight rate of speed which all
was in a willful or wanton disregard of safety of persons or property.
I am forwarding a citation to U1 for reckless driving.
