Adjournment BENSONHILLCOMMUNITYPLANADVISORYBOARD August 18, 2016 CURRENT CONDITIONS – LAND USE •>4 sq. miles (~20% of City) •Predominately residential •Two large commercial areas •12 recognized neighborhoods •~half of all residents not located within recognized neighborhoods •bounded by two large natural areas, with several parks and miles of informal trails within. •Schools: seven facilities •Most roads primarily serve vehicles ¾Missing sidewalk links ¾Unmarked bike lanes CURRENT CONDITIONS - DEMOGRAPHICS •~400 businesses •~22,000 residents •~1/4 of Renton population •High proportion of children compared to the region •23% of residents born outside of the U.S. •7% of population lives in households where adults are not proficient in English. •Most areas have slightly higher median incomes than Renton average Advertised with:•posters, •postcards, •media releases, •mass emails, •social media, •a webpage, and •informal discussions. Establish 116th Avenue SE as the central spine, or “jewel pathway,” of Benson Hill. 2. Expand the trail network to build on the existing wealth of trails in the area, increase recreational and active living opportunities, and provide safe connections for non-motorized travel. 3. Improve neighborhood streets to complete a network of walking routes that connect destinations and neighborhoods and are safe and inviting for all users. 4. Improve access and usability of transit. 5.
