PLANNING COMMISSION

CALL TO ORDER Commission Chair Shannon Matson called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS 1. Gina Cari, Renton, expressed her thrill when she received supplemental staff report
indicating that the City has established a date that existing retail pet stores will be required
to cease the sale of dogs. She commended the Commission for a job well done and that she
looked forward to working with them in the next steps.
2. Cathleen Powell, expressed her appreciation to the Planning Commission on the efforts put
into this and that she is pleased in the direction that they are moving the City into. She also
reported that she came across a post in her neighborhood about Puppyland with 148
comments from 49 different people, of which 89% wanted Puppyland to cease business in
Renton with the rest requesting for additional education and awareness.
3. Karren Gallant, expressed opposition to Puppyland selling puppies in Renton and she
looked forward to the said store to be closed down.
4. Jessie Friedman, Renton, expressed her support in passing humane pet store ordinance and
she thanked the Planning Commissioners for putting effort into this.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS 1. Commissioner Matson gave her appreciation on the hard work of all the Planning
Commissioners on this item.
ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT Chip stated that discussion on Retail Pet Sales will resume next meeting.
He also announced that we are getting started on the update for the Clean Economy strategy
which was adopted by the City back in 2011 that outlines strategies the City can initiate on how
to advance on issues like climate change and cleaner economy. He also requested the
Commission to identify the representative to the Clean Economy Strategy Steering Committee
for next meeting.
He also reported that the activity in Renton Downtown last Saturday was a huge success
regardless of the horrible weather.
RENTON URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN PUBLIC HEARING
Motion to open the public hearing by Commissioner Seil, seconded by Commissioner Bayan. All
ayes, motion carried.
Ian Gray and Chris Peiffer presented Renton City Urban Forest Management Plan.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
1. Commissioner Bayan requested for a copy of the draft of the plan to be forwarded to all
Commissioners. Angie emphasized that comments are welcome until December 8, 2021.

DOCKET 16 GROUP C DELIBERATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Hannah presented D202-Ordinance to Extend the Sunset Date and Modify the Multi-family Property
Tax Exemption.

Hannah presented D204- Ordinance to Extend the Sunset Date Rental Registration Program.

1. Commissioner Bayan clarified if the Code is considered a living document and will be regularly
updated as the need arises and Hannah answered in affirmative.

Motion to accept recommendations made by Commissioner Fiksdal, seconded by Commissioner Bayan.
