The .,Uality of welding and the welding prose es shall be determined by
tes , the welder's ability to make sound welom,, under standard working
conditions with the equipment to be used in the work on this project, and in
conformance with AWS D1.1, Section S. The Contractor shall submit certified
copies of the qualifications of the welders employed on the contract. Each
welder shall be required to identify her/his work with a code marking, and a
listing of the names of the welders with corresponding code mark shall be
furnished by the Contracting Officer. Welders making defective welds after
passing the test shall be given a requalification test. Welders who fall a
requalification test shall not be permitted to perform work under this project.

2.02 GENERAL RE UIREMENTS
Elevators shall meet the requirements of the manufacturer as specified dbnve and
shall meet the following additional requirements:
I. Elevator shall be hydraulic.
2. Hydraulics shall be piston type, either telescoping hale -less type or bored
cylinder type.
3. Unit shall have microprocessor controllers, tivitlr selective callecive
operation. Motor generator sets are not acceptable.
q A fire recall system (including Phase 11 recall) should be provided for
each elevator.
5. Brakes shall have sufficient power to stop and hold the car with 1256 of
rated capacity.
6. Cab shall have an emergency phone station, emergency alarm button, and
emergency lighting.
7. Speed to be 125 fpm minimum, 150 fpm rnaximurn
8. Elevators shall have provisions for the handicapped as requiv,,d by code.
9. Electronic door sensing shall be manufacturer's standard pro)dmity
detectors.
10. Hall buttons and car buttons shall illuminate upon contact.
11. Hall gong or tone shall be adjustable in volume and mutably?.
12. Cab shall be capable of accommodating Renton Fire Departr ent Gurney
(approximately T-0' x 1'-10" i in a horizontal configuration.

2.03 ELECTRICAL WORK
All work shall conform to the requirements of Division 16 and the following.
1. The power supply will either be a 480Y/27 volt, 3 phase, 4 wire grounded
system.
2. Lighting supply shall be 120V, 15A capacity.
3. Confirmation of current characteristics shall be furnished to the elevator
contractor by Contractor before commencing work.
4. All wires in the traveling cables must be terminated on a terminal board
with permanent identification matching that used in schematic diagrams.
5. All relays, switches, resistors, overload devices, fuses, timers, etc.,
mechanically or electrically operated, shall be permanently marked with
identification matching that used in the schematic design.
6. All devices shown in all schematic diagrams shall be identified to the
satisfaction of the Owner.
7. All field wiring must terminate at each control cabinet on approved and
properly identified terminal strips. Field wiring shall not terminate on
equipment or relay studs. All control wiring shall be of stranded
construction.
8. All identification :hall conform to the standards in Division 16..
PART 3 -.–EX—EC—LMON
3.01 UALIF CAT10NS
Elevator Subcontractor alification: The elevator subcontractor must qualify no
later than 90 days after the Award of Contract submitting satisfactory evidence of:
1. Plant and facilities adequate to produce and install the complete elevator.
2. personnel thoroughly experienced in each phage of design, manufacture,
installation and service.
3. Experienced personnel able to provide service without delay.
4. Repair parts and special tools locally available.
5. The ability to produce the reference documents called for under the
execution section of this standard. Contractor must provide the Architect
with a sample of the reference documents complete in all respects
demonstrating the kind of reference documents material that will be
supplied the Owner under the contract All material will be held in strict
confidence and returned to the proposer if requested. The successful
proposer must leave the sample material on file with the Architect until all
reference documents have been supplied in conformity with the Contract.
6. If the elevator subcontractor fails to meet the Owner's qualifications, the
Contractor shall provide an elevator subcontractor which does meet the
Owner's qualifications at no additional expense to the Owner.
3.02 EXECUTION
A. prep2ratory Work by General Contractor.
The following work is to be performed by the General Contractor. Provide:
1. A legal hoistway properly framed and enclosed.
2. Lighted and ventilated machine room.
3. Access doors and guards.

4. Steel channel door frames as located on drawings.
5. Beam supports for machinery.
6. poor sills and door sill angles (approximately 4' x 4' x 3/8' verify size
with elevator manufacturer.)
7. Supports for guide rail brackets.
8. Light outlets in pit as required by code.
9. Feeder wires to elevatar control panel.
W. Fused main line switch or circuit breaker in proximity to control panel`
11. Hoistway outlets for car lights.
12. :iachine room outlets for elevator signal equipment.
13. power for testing and adjusting elevator equipment, temporary power
during construction.
14. All cutting and patching of walls, floors or parti!ionr.
15. Protection of hoistway during construction.
16. Pit Ladder: Provide ladder 42" above bottom of terminal entrance. Provide
rungs 3/4" diameter steel and 4' from wall. Side rails shall be 3/8" x 2"
steel. Rails and rungs shall be welded together. Contractor shall provide
method for securing to wall.
17. Smoke Doors and }'ramex: Provide 20 minute rated doors and frame
assembly at each elevator entrance. Smoke doors are to be held open by
magnetic hold -opens and released by activation of smoke detectors.
17. Installation beam: Contractor shall provide size as required by elevator
installer. Contractor shall remove after use.
B. prior to installation, the installer shall examine the hoistway and machine room
to verifv that no irregularities exist that would affect the quality of execution of
Work. Written notification of any discrepancies should be submitted to the
Contractor and architect. Work shall not proceed until problems are corrected.
C. Testing
1. Upon nominal completion of elevator installation, and before permitting
use of elevator (either temporary or permanent), perform acceptance les's
as required and recommended by code and governing regulations or
agencies.
2. Final Acceptance of the installation shall be made only after all field quality
control inspections and tests are completed; all submittals and certificates
have been received in conformance with the Contract; speed, capacity, floor
to floor performance, and door operation comply with the contract
requirements.
3. The Contractor shall furnish personnel, equipment, and instruments to
perform required tests for acceptance of the equipment in accordance with
code and contractual requirements, including the following:
a. Insulation Resistance Test: Test safety circuit, door lock circuit, loop
circuit, and motor and generator field circuits at 500 volts. Ltinimum
resistance to ground one megohm.
b. Running Test: With equipment within 5 degrees of ambient machine
room temperature, perform the following:
1) Place thermometers in hoist motor, exciter and generator
windings.

load in car.

3) Run fully loaded car continuously for a period of 34 minutes,
stopping at each floor in both directions for a period of 10
seconds.
In all test conditions, speed and performance times specified shall be
met, stopping accuracy shall be maintained without releveling and
general riding quality shall be acceptable to Owner. Temperature rise
in windings shall not exceed 50 degree`. C above ambient.
4. Following the proper installation and testing of equipment, the Contractor
shall furnish a certificate of final inspection and approval from the State of
Washington. The elevator contractor will be required to provide to the
Owner ail reference documents required to carry out adequate
maintenance. If there is any question regarding what is required by the
Owner, the Contractor shall review the requirements with the Owner. If
adequate reference documents are not already available from the supplier
on all equipment used in the installation, the elevator contractor will be
required to produce the necessary documents at her/his own expense to
the satisfaction of the Owner. All reference documents must be submitted
directly to the Owner at least two weeks prior to final inspection of the
elevator. All referency documents must be organized under separate cover
fo• the elevator unit in logical, indexed sequence for easy reference and
bound with a long-lasting, wear tesistant cover. In general, the required
material shall be as follows:
a. Drawin s Dia rams Schematics:
1) All drawings and shop drawings corrcctea to record drawings.
2) All diagrams shall be clearly legible in not -full-size details.
3) All drawings, pnnts and reproducible transparencies to be not
less than 24" x 4" or 18" x 24* if drawn to full size.
b. Manuals of Instruction (!tc.: Submit 8 copies of each, giving complete
descriptive information and instruction manuals, incluaing
ati
adjustments and sen -icing, covering the following where applicable:
1) Signal system used, including sequence of operation and
adjustment instructions.
2) Dtvr operation, including electric eye and sensitive edge, its
sequence of operation .-knd adjusting instructions.
Novice Function and Description:
Device or relay symbol and name.
A full description of the function device or relay in the
control and signal circuits.
4) Hydraulic valve and pumps:
Adjusting instructions
Oil flow schematic diagrams
5) Jack Packing
- Show cross section of seals and retainer
Procedures for packing
6 Provide literature for multi -section or inverted cylinder and/or
plungers.

6. Machine Room Reference Drawings: :fount 1 complete set of approved
schematic drawings on 1/4' tempered rnasonite and cover the entire
surface with dear 1/8' thick acrylic plastic, or in notebook with each page
mounted in acrylic plastic. Tape edges securely with 1-1/2' black plastic
tare. Deliver to Owner. ALL REFERENCE DOCUMENTS MUST BE
COMIlLETED TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE OWNER BEFORE
SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION OF THE ELEVATOR WORK CAN BE
MADE. FINAL PAYMENT OF THE CONTRACT CANNOT BE MADE
UNTIL THE ELEVATOR WORK IS ACCEPTED.
D. Instructions:
1. instruct Owner's personnel in operation and daily maintenance of elevators.
Review emergency provisions and procedures. Train Owner's personnel in
normal procedures to be followed in checking for sources of operational
failures or rnalfunctions. Confer with Owner on requirements for a
complete ele-,ator maintenance program.
2. Make a final check of each elevator operation, with Ownefs persor,nel
present and just prior to date of Substantial Completion. Determine that
control systems and operating devices are functioning
E. ?Maintenance:
1. The Elevator Contractor shall furnish full maintenance of the elevator
equipment for a period of three months (90 days) after completion of the
elevator installation. Full maintenance shall include regular weekly
examinations of the installation by competent personnel and shall include
all necessary adjustments, repairs, lubricating, cleaning and the needed
supplies, etc., to keep the equipment in first class condition, except for
