Volunteer Opportunities Available with City of Renton’s National Day of Service
Renton’s Largest Day of Volunteer Mobilization in Renton to be Held September 12
For the sixth year, and in honor of the thirteenth anniversary of September 11, the City of Renton is partnering with local
agencies for the National Day of Service to provide volunteer opportunities in the Renton area. This year’s Day of Service
will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a “Celebration of Service” picnic at Liberty
Park from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. with entertainment provided by Ian Dobson. There are hundreds of volunteer
positions available for this special day of service created to bring the community together for charitable causes; the
same way many brave citizens did during and following September 11.
There are a variety of important projects for interested volunteer:
Cleaning and maintenance of Harambee Church
Removal of invasive plants at various King County and City of Renton Parks
Helping out at the garage sale for Birthday Dreams
To register as a volunteer go to JustServe.org and select a Renton Day of Service Project.
ABOUT NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE
In 2009, Congress officially designated September 11 as National Day of Service and Remembrance, and President
Obama called for all Americans to participate in our Nation’s recovery and renewal efforts by serving their community,
and showing our Nations’ true strength in coming together in times of uncertainty to help others; the way many brave
citizens did during and following September 11. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, it is
projected that over 1 million citizens across the US will participate in the National Day of Service and answer the
President’s call to serve and honor all those impacted by the attacks.
