Lane Closures on Maple Valley Highway/SR169 in Renton to install Riverview Bridge
Expect delays and consider alternate routes Friday December 11, 2015
Two eastbound lanes of the Maple Valley Highway/SR169 in Renton will be diverted to a single lane on Friday
December 11 for delivery and installation of the new Riverview Park pedestrian bridge. Maple Valley
Highway/SR169 between the Renton Community Center and SE 5th Street will be diverted between the hours
of 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastbound traffic will be shifted into the two-way left turn lane and no left turn will be
allowed onto SE 5th Street during this closure. Expect traffic delays. Motorists are advised to avoid Maple
Valley Highway/SR169 and consider alternate routes during this time.
The former Riverview Park Bridge was constructed on creosote-treated wood pilings set in the Cedar River. A
2012 engineering report rated the substructure in poor condition due to its age and debris repeatedly caught
in the piers. Renton received a direct appropriation from the legislature in 2013 for $1,067,000. The new
bridge is expected to open to the public in early 2016, with an official celebration planned for spring 2016.
