The fields that are being • modified are the softball, baseball, soccer, and the track. The scope of work includes the instillation of underdrains at different locations on site. It also includes some modification to the • existing irrigation system accommodate the new field improvements. • The facilities are owned by the Renton School District. The project is located in Renton, Washington and is bounded by the existing high school to the East, Duvall Ave SE to the West, • NE 121h Street to the north, and NE 10' Street to the south. No new impervious areas will be • added as a part of this project however some modification of the tennis court will be necessary • for improved drainage of this area. • No buildings will be demolished, modified, or constructed as a part of this project. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 4� 4� 4� EXISTING DRAINAGE CONDITIONS The entire property consists of approximately 34 acres, our project disturbs only 8.5 of thouse. • Although the site drains both toward Duvall street on the western side and 142"d on the eastern side it appears that these two drainage systems meet up about a half mile down stream. r According to the City of Renton drainage maps it appears that a stream along Sunset Blvd takes inflow from both of these minor sub-basins. • The Softball field tends to drain in a northeastern direction until it meets the neighboring property. The runoff from this area then runs due east toward the 142"d street right of way. Once there it enters the City of Renton conveyance system and travels north to Sunset Blvd. The stream next to Sunset Blvd runs westward, eventually entering Lake Washington. • Stormwater runoff from the baseball field is slightly more direct. The runoff in this area sheet flows across the field to the west where it flows down a small hill to Duvall Ave. Once on this street it enters the City of Renton conveyance system that travels north to the aforementioned • stream. The soccer field runoff is currently the least contained with the most potential for impacting the neighboring properties. The runoff from this field is split and travels both northerly and • northwesterly. The runoff to the north dumps down a hillside directly toward an existing house. • Evidence of seepage from the hillside was evident flowing toward the neighboring property at the time of investigation, in mid August. The flow leaving the site to the northwest also travels down a hill toward an apartment building. A drainage channel had been installed between our property and this building to intercept flows from our site and direct it away from the building to • the north. Software developed by King County, Washington was used to calculate hydrographs and to size the detention system. • DESIGN PARAMETERS The detention system was designed to handle flow according the following criteria: • 2 year 24 hour storm (2.10") Postdevelopment runoff to match predevelopment 10 year 24 hour storm (2.95") Postdevelopment runoff to match predevelopment 100 year 24 hour storm (4.00") system to convey postdeveloped runoff. The postdeveloped runoff was designed looking at each sub-basin separately this allowed us to use and maintain the natural drainage course as much as possible. Even though there was no addition of impervious area, the addition of underdrains significantly increases on the curve • number. Detention facilities were designed to keep the post-developed runoff at the same rate as • the pre-developed condition. The softball field has the addition of a quarter-acre of underdrainage as a part of the base project. If the alternate for this area is taken the area with underdrains becomes a half-acre. To • compensate for the increased runoff due to this underdrainage a detention pipe will be used to meter out the runoff. The length of detention pipe needed for the base bid system is 83 feet for the alternate 195 feet. Runoff will then be routed to the conveyance system in 142"d street. • The baseball field has no base bid underdrainage. In the alternate however some drainage will be added in the western corner of the field. A small pond was designed to detain and meter out the flow. A level spreader will be used to prevent concentrated flows from eroding the hillside. After leaving the level spreader the runoff in this area will follow the pre-development drainage • course. The underdrainage in the soccer field is all part of the base bid. The drainage from this field is to be detained in a 48"pipe 165 feet in length. In stead of continuing to direct flow from this field onto the neighboring properties.
