Proposed Reallocation of 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds
and Community Development Block Grant ‐ Coronavirus Round 3 (CDBG‐CV3) Funds
The City of Renton receives federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds
each year through King County. These funds must serve low‐moderate income Renton
residents and be allocated in accordance with federal regulations. The Renton Healthy
Homes project was allocated $35,862 in CDBG funds for 2023, and these funds are
proposed to be reallocated to the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center Roof
Replacement project, which already includes CDBG funding. Consolidating CDBG funds
to one capital project will reduce the burden of increasing federal grant requirements
and reduce audit risk. Other funds have been identified to replace the CDBG funds for
the Healthy Homes project.
The reallocated 2023 CDBG funding of $35,862 is proposed for design, construction, and
construction management costs for a roof replacement at the Don Persson Renton
Senior Activity Center. The Center is located at 211 Burnett Ave N, Renton, Washington
98057 and serves seniors, which is a presumed low‐moderate income group.
The City of Renton received federal Community Development Block Grant – Coronavirus
Round 3 (CDBG‐CV3) funds through King County. These funds must be used to serve
low‐moderate income Renton residents and must prevent, prepare for, and respond to
the Coronavirus. CDBG‐CV3 funding in the amount of $30,000 was previously awarded
to Domestic Abuse Women’s Network (DAWN) who spent $19,950, leaving an amount
remaining of $10,050 for reallocation. The City proposes to reallocate this $10,050 in
unspent CDBG‐CV3 to the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Improvements project at the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center at 211 Burnett
Ave N, Renton, Washington 98057, which already includes CDBG‐CV3 funding.
