GENERAL INFORMATION
Arrived on site for observation of asphalt placement of the roadway pavement by KLB. The Terracon
representative arrived on site at 0800 and departed at 1545.
ASAPHALT PLACEMENT
Observed the placement of approximately (880) tons of ½” HMA Asphalt 58H-2 in road of the Southport Park Ave
extension. A Rice value of 158.6 was provided by KLB. Asphalt Rice density tested by Mayes Terracon on
11/24/21 report No. M7211711.002A was obtained from a sample taken on site, providing a Rice of 160.9. The
contractor placed two lifts. The first lift was 4” thick and the second was 2” thick. Contractor utilized a Caterpillar
AP555F asphalt screed and dump trucks to place asphalt. (3) rollers were utilized by contractor during asphalt
placement. A HAMM HD 12 and HAMM HD 14 smooth drum vibratory roller were used for the first lift. In addition
to these two rollers, a HAMM HD 120 smooth drum vibratory roller was also used for the second lift.
All lifts were compacted to achieve the minimum compaction specification of 92% or greater. Random tests were
taken at various locations, each test taken exceeded the client’s minimum compaction specification of 92% or
greater using Rice values supplied.
The results of observation(s) for today were reported to George Peabody with KLB. See attached Field Density
Test Report for additional information.
SUMMARY OF TESTING
Test results meet the 92% compaction rating.
COMPLIANCE STATEMENT
To the best of our knowledge, the items inspected today are in conformance with approved plans and
specifications.
