Sanitary Sewer Notes and Specifications
1. All work materials shall be in conformance with the standards and specification of the City of Renton Utility Deportment and the latest edition of the WSDOT/APWA
Standards and Specifications.
2. All construction shall be in accordance with "Standard Specifications for Municipal Public Works Construction" prepared by Washington State Chapter American Public
Works Association, latest edition (APWA) and City of Renton Standard Specifications. ·
3. All locations of existing utilities shown ore approximate and it shall be the contractor's responsibility to verify the true and correct location so as to avoid damage
or disturbance. ,
4. Contractor is solely responsible for the means, methods and sequences of construction and for the safety of workers and others on the construction site.
5. It shall be the responsibility of the contractor to obtain street use and any other related permits prior to any construction. ·
6. Plans. approved by the City of Renton, Public Works Deportment shall toke precedence over all other plans.
7. A copy of these approved plans must be on the job site whenever construction Is In progress.
8. The contractor shall provide the City of Renton with an as-built drawing of the sanitary sewer system, which hos been stomped and signed by a licensed
professional engineer or licensed professional surveyor.
9. Backfill shall be placed equally on both sides of the pipe in layers with a loose overage depth of 6 Inches, maximum depth of 8 Inches, thoroughly tamping each
layer to 95 percent of maximum density. These compacted layers must extend for one pipe diameter on each side of the pipe or to the side of the trench.
Moteriols to complete the fill over pipe shall be the some as described.
10. Open cut rood crossings for utility trenches on existing traveled roadway shall be backfilled with crushed rock and mechanically compacted. Cuts Into the existing
asphalt sholl be neotllne cut with sow In a continuous line. A temporary mix patch must be placed Immediately ofter backfill and compaction. A permanent hot mix
potch shall be placed within 10 days and shall be per City of Renton current standards.
11. Datum shall be City of Renton, 1988 NA'v1l.
12. All disturbed oreos shall be seeded ond mulched or otherwise stabilized to the satisfaction of the Deportment for the prevention of on-site erosion ofter the
completion of construction •
13. All pipe and appurtenances shall be laid on a properly prepared foundation in accordance with Section 7 of the current State of Washington Stondord
Specifications for Rood ond Bridge Construction. This shall Include necessary leveling of the trench bottom or the top of the foundation material, as well as
placement and compaction of required bedding materiel, lo uniform grade so that the entire length of the pipe will be supported on a uniformly dense, un~elding
base. Pipe bedding shall be pea grovel 6 Inches above ond below the pipe.
14. Sonitory sewer pipe shall be polyvin~ chloride (PVC) rubber gasketed ASTM D 3034, SOR 35, or ductile Iron class 50.
15. In unimproved oreos, manhole to extend minimum 6 inches and maximum 12 Inches above finished grade. In poved oreo, cover must slope In all directions to
match paving.

10. The two 2-1/2 inch hose nozzles shall be fitted with cost Iron threaded caps with operating nut of the ~e de and proportions ae \he hydrant stem nut.
Caps shall be fitted with suitable neoprene gaskets for positive waler tightness under test pressures.
11. The 4 inch pumper nozzle shall be fitted with o S\on adapter, 4 inch Seattle Thread x 5 Inch Storz. Storz adap~ shall be forged and/or extruded 6061-T6
aluminum alloy, hordcoa\ anodized. Threaded end portion shall have no lugs and two set screws 180 degrees apart· ~torz face to be metal, na gasket to weather.

17. 'PIGS' shall be c~lnder shaped with bullet nose or square end. The contractor will perform the cleaning operation.
18. All wotermains and services shall be pressure tested \o a minimum of 200 psi or 150 psi over operating pressure In accordance with the specifications of \he
City of Renton and the Washington State Health Deportment. All pressure testing shall be done In the presence of a representa\lve of the City of Renton. The
quantity of water lost from the main shall not exceed \he number al gallons per hour as listed In City of Renton Stjdord Plans & Specifications 7-11.3(11). The
loss in pressure shall not eKceed 5 psi during \he 2 hour test period.
19. All watermains and services shall be disinfected by the injection of a 50 ppm (minimum concentration) chlorlne/w1ater solution. Dry Calcium Hwochlorlte shall
NOT be placed In the pipe as lold. Chlorine shall be metered/injected In accordance with Section 7-11.3(12)E or 7-1,3(12)F of \he Standord Spe<:iflcatlons
referenced above.
20. A pre-construction conference Is required prior to o.ny construction. A minimum of five (5) working da)ll notice r;·s requifed for sclledullng. :
21. Twenty-four (24) hours notice will be required prior 'to starting new construction.

Surface Water Drainage Notes and Specifications
1. BEFORE ANY CONSTRUCllON OR DEVELOPMENT ACll\llTY OCCURS, A PRE-CONSTRUCllON MEEllNG MUST BE HELO l't1TH THE CITY Of RENTON PLAN RE\IIE~R.
2. All construction shall be In accordance with the 1996 Standard Specifications for Road, Bridge and Municipal Construction prepared by WSOOT and the American
Public Works Association (APWA), as amended by the City of Renton Public Works Deportment.
3. The surface water drainage system shall be constructed according to the approved plans, which are on file In the Public Works Deportment. Any deviation from
the approved plans will require written approval from the City of Renton Public Works Department, Surface Water Utility Section.
4. A copy of these <1pproved plans must be on the job site whenever construction is in progress.
5. Datum shall be NAVO 88 unless otherwise approved by the City of Renton Public Works Deportment. Reference benchmark and elevations ore noted on the plans.
6. All sedimentation/erosion facilities must be in operation prior to clearing and building construction, and they must be satisfactorily maintained until construction ls
completed and the potential for on-site erosion has passed.
7. All retention/dete11tion facilities must be Installed and In operation prior to or In conj.mctlon with all construction activity unless otherwise approved by the Publlc
Works Deportment, Surface Water Utility Section.
8. Gross seed may be applied by hydroseedlng. The grass seed mixture, other than City of Renton approved standard mixes, shall be submitted by a Landscape
Architect and approved by the Public Works Department, Surface Water Utility Section.
9. All pipe ond appurtenances shall be laid on a properly prepared foundation In accordance with Section 7-02.3(1) of the current State of Washington Standard
Specification for Rood and Bridge Construction. This shall include necessary leveling of the trench bottom or the top ot the foundation. material, as well as ploce_m~nt
and compaction of rnquirecl ·bedding material, to uniform ·grade sii that the entire length of the pipe will be supported on a uniformly dense, un)ielding base. All pipe
bedding shall be APWA Class 'c', with the exception of PVC pipe. All trench backfill shall be compacted to minimum 95,; for pavement and structural fill and 90%
otherwise per ASTM D-1557-70. Pe<J grovel be~ding shall be 6 Inches over and under PVC pipe.
10. Galvanized steel pipe and alumlnlzed steel pipe for all drainage facllitles shall have asphalt treatment #1 or better Inside and outside.
11. Structures shall not be permitted within 10 feet of the spring line of any storm drainage pipe, or 15 feet from the top of any channel bank.
12. All catch basin grates shall be depressed 0.10 feet below pavement level.
13. Open cut road crossings through existing public right of way will not be allowed unless specifically approved by City of Renton Plannlng/Bulldlng/Publlc Works
Administrator.
14. Rock for erosion protection of roadside ditches, where required, shall be of sound quarry rock placed to a depth of one (1) foot and must meet the following
specifications:
4 -8 inch rock / 40 -70% passing;
2 -4 inch rock / 30 -40% passing; and
less than 2 Inch rock / 10 -20,; passing.
15. All building downspouts ond looting drains shall be connected to the storm drainage system, unless approved by the City plan reviewer or Surface Water Utility
Section. An accurately dimensioned, certified as-built drawing of this drainage system will be submitted to the City upon completiOII.
16. Issuance of the building or construction permits by the City of Renton does not relieve the owner of the continuing legal obllgatlOII and/or liability connected with
storm surface water disposition. Further, the City of Renton does not accept any obligation for the proper functioning and maintenance of the system provided
during construction.
17. The Contractor shall be responsible for providing adequate safeguard, safety devices, protective equipment, floggers, and any other needed actions to protect the
life, health, and safety of the public, and to protect property In connection with the performance of work covered by the contract. Any work within the traveled right
of way that may interrupt normal traffic flow shall require a traffic control plan approve by the Public Works Department, Transportation Systems Division. All
sections of the WSDOT Standard Specifications 1-07-23 Traffic Control shall apply.
18. Special drainage measures will be required if the project location is within the aquifer protection area (APA).
19. BEFORE ANY CONSTRUCllON OR DEVELOPMENT ACllVlTY OCCURS, A PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEEllNG MUST BE HELD 111TH THE CITY OF RENTON, PUBLIC WORKS DESIGN
ENGINEER.
20. All limits of clearing and areas of vegetation preservation as prescribed on the plan(s) shall be clearly flagged in the field and observed during construction.
21. All required sedimentation/erosion control facilities must be constructed and in operation prior to land clearing and/or construction to ensure that sediment laden
water does not enter the natural drainage system. All erosion and sediment facilities shall be maintained in a satisfactory condition until such time that clearing
and/or construction is complete and potential for on-site erosion has passed. The implementation, maintenance, replacement and additions to erosion/sedimentation
control systems shall be the responsibility of the permitee.
22. The erosion and sedimentation control systems depicted on this drawing ore Intended lo be minimum requirements to meet anticipated site conditions. As
construction progresses and unexpected or seasonal conditions dictate, the permltee shall anticipate that more erosion and sedimentation control facllltles will be
necessary to ensure complete siltation control on the proposed site. During the course of construction, it shall be the obligation and responsibility of the permltee to
address any new conditions that may be created by the activities and to provide additional facilities, over and above minimum requirements, as may be needed, ta
protect adjacent properties and water quality of the receiving drainage system.
23. Approval of this pion is for erosion/sedimentation control only. It does not constitute an approval of storm drainage design, size nor location of pipes,
restrictors, channels, or retention facilities.
24. During the time period of October 1st through April 30th, all project distributed soil areas gre<1ter than 5,000 square feet, that are to be left un-worked for
more than 12 hours, shall be covered by mulch, sodding or plastic covering.
25. In any area which has been stripped of vegetation and where no further work Is anticipated for a period 30 days or more, all disturbed areas must be
immediately stabilized with mulching, grass planting or other approved erosion control treatment appllcable to the time of year. Grass seeding ol011e will be
acceptable only during the months of April through September, Inclusive. Seeding may proceed, however, whenever it is in the interest of the permitee, but must be
augmented with mulching, netting or other treatment opproved by the City of Renton, outside the specified time period.
26. For all erosion/se,dimentation control ponds where the dead storage depth exceeds 6 inches, a fence Is required with a minimum height of three (3) feet, 3:1
side slopes. ·
27. A temporary grovel construction entrance, 24 feet x 50 feet x 8 inches of 4 to 6 inch quarry spoils shall be located at all points of vehicular ingress and egress
to the construction site.
