The project value is approximately $5,000.00. Cable protectors were installed on an adjacent part of the cables in conjunction with a "soft" bank stabilization effort in 2002. A Shoreline Exemption was issued for that project (LUA02-131, SME) on November 20, 2002. Because of continued beach erosion more cable has become exposed and is the focus of the current cable protection effort. The current project does not propose bank stabilization. P5E.mm June 2, 2009 City of Renton Planning Division 1055 South Grady Way Renton, WA 95057 Subject: Shoreline Exemption Request Dear Reviewing Parties: Puget Sound Energy, Inc. (PSE) owns and maintains (3) 115,000 -volt cables that were laid across Lake Washington from Renton to Mercer Island in 1964. All 3 electric cables are exposed in shallow water on the Renton end at the Quendall Cable Station immediately adjacent to the shoreline. PSE proposes to install cast aluminum cable protectors around each of the 3 cables for a distance of approximately 15'. The Cable protectors are installed by hand. They are made of one-half inch thick cast aluminum. Each cable protector is 22 inches long and split lengthwise into two parts. They are bolted together, and once installed, they interlock with the neighboring units. Each unit forms a ball on one end that fits into a socket in its neighbor. The `project' is expected to take 1-2 days. The purpose of the project is to install protection for the cables from damage and to prevent the public from coming into contact with 115,000 volt electrical cables. The project is located at 4601 Lake Washington BV, Parcel # 2924059012. Cable protectors were installed in conjunction with a "soft' bank stabilization effort in 2003 (permits attached). Due to continued beach erosion more cable has become exposed. This project does not propose bank stabilization efforts, simply installing aluminum covers around exposed 115 kV cables. Please contact me at (253) 476-6341 or chris.listfjeld@pse.com if I may answer any questions. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
