Project Narrative
Project Name: Narco Tree Removal
Location of Project: King County, Renton WA, Narco Property (part of the Cedar River Natural Area),
T.23N. R.5E. Section 17, SE Quarter. ApproximatelySOO feet upstream (east) of 1-405 along the
south bank of the Cedar River and directly south of Carco Theatre in Cedar River Park (1717 Maple
Valley Highway).
Description of Work: Removal of high risk Populus trichocarpa. The upper portion of tree to be
removed retaining the lower 20 feet for wildlife habitat and hillside stabilization.
Start Date: August 12, 2009
No conversion of the site will occur. Work will utilize a crane to reduce as much as possible any site
disturbance associated with tree removal. Site is a steep bank and some tree cutting of five smaller
trees (bigleaf maple clumps) may occur to facilitate removal of the larger cottonwood tree. Tree parts
will be yarded onto the level turf area above the crest of the hill, processed and removed from the
site. Soils will be unaffected as no equipment or vehicles will access the site where the tree grows
and none of the understory vegetation within the immediate vicinity of the tree will be affected.
Cost of project is anticipated to be: $5,000.00 or less
Distance to the ordinary high water mark is within a few feet.
The bank of the Cedar River rises nearly straight up at the location of the tree. The bank is
approximately 20 feet from the surface of the river. The cottonwood tree sits about 5 feet from the
surface of the river where the stem of the tree begins. The bank contains natural vegetation including
groundcover forbs and grasses, dogwood shrubs and bigleaf maple sprout clumps and trees.
