Grady Way CALL TO ORDER Chair Dieckman called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. ROLL CALL In Person: Board Members: Al Dieckman, Chair Cynthia Burns Larry Reymann Tim Searing Marlene Winter Staff: Maryjane Van Cleave, Interim Parks and Recreation Administrator Steve Brown, Parks Manager Carrie Nass, Recreation Director Erica Schmitz, Parks Planning and Natural Resources Director Roberta Graver, Administrative Assistant Virtual: Board Members: Troy Wigestrand Guests: Sandra Havlik, Renton Police Department Board Members Absent: Christine Santos STAFF COMMENTS As a follow-up to the CPTED presentation, Steve Brown commented that Parks Maintenance is being proactive with CPTED methods, for example removing arborvitaes in Veterans Memorial Park, which sustained crime earlier this year. AUDIENCE COMMENT Audience comment is permitted in person, via access using the above Zoom link, or may also be submitted in writing to parksandrec@rentonwa.gov by noon of the day of the meeting. Those wishing to address the Parks Commission will be called upon. Each speaker is allowed three (3) minutes. Page 1 of 2 CONSENT AGENDA Approval of the Agenda. Approval of the October 10,2023 Minutes Larry Reymann motioned to approve tonights agenda and the October 10,2023 meeting minutes as presented. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS City Webs ite Review Board members will reserve comments till next meeting for time to review the current website.Burns commented that she gets lost looking for items,especially recreation registration and city projects. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED)Presentation -Sandra Havlik,Police Communications &Community Engagement Coordinator shared a presentation describing CPTED and how she and other certified staff can provide security assessments of development plans,current buildings,and open space like parks and trails.Design of buildings,development and city facilities can and are implementing assessments and tactics to provide clearer visibility of lines of site,preventing hiding or secluded areas that are opportunities of crime.Sandra can provide staff training.Security camera,signage,and education are ideal practices. 2024 Meeting Topics Brainstorming meeting topics will be referred to the next meeting. CHAIR COMMNENTS Chair asked for a quick update on Philip Arnold Park.Erica Schmitz stated the construction is really close to being completed,with just a safety punch list,so it could be open by end of November.There will be some final railing installations slated in early 2024,so those areas will be fenced off for safety.
