NARRATIVE
Assignment:
On 5-3-23, 1 was working uniformed patrol in a marked Renton PD unit. At approximately 1744 hours,
I was dispatched to investigate a traffic collision that occurred in the intersection of Sunset Blvd N and
the NB 1405 on ramp, in the City of Renton, County of King (WA).
Scene:
The 400 block of Sunset Blvd N is a two-way north-south bound street with a northbound center left
turn lane, which leads to the NB 1405 on ramp. The turn lane onto the on ramp is controlled by a yield
sign but the southbound lanes of traffic on Sunset Blvd N are not controlled by any traffic sign/device.
Arriva I:
Upon arrival, I saw a blue Honda CRV (WALic#BFA3476, Unit#1) with damage on the front driver's
side. There was also a red Subaru Impreza (WALic #BIH1854, Unit#2) with damage on the rear
driver's side. Both drivers were with their respective vehicles.
Statement of Farzan Dini:
Dini (identified by WADL) was driving Unit#1 northbound in the northbound left turn lane onto the NB
405 on ramp. Dini stated she came to a complete stop at the yield sign, then slowly drove forward to
check if there was any incoming traffic. Then Unit#2 collided with her vehicle. Dini believed Unit#2
was travelling at a very high rate of speed (70mph) and hit her vehicle. Later, Dini oscillated between
stating she inched forwards at the yield sign and stating she was at a complete stop when Unit#2
collided with her.
Dini kept rubbing her stomach and complained of pain. Fire arrived on scene and determined a
medical transport was not necessary. There were no defects to Unit#1 prior to this incident.
Statement of Maria Gutierrez:
Gutierrez (identified by WADL) was going straight ahead, southbound, in the 400 block of Sunset
Blvd N. Gutierrez stated she had almost completely passed through the intersection with the NB 405
on ramp turn lane when Unit#1 drove into her lane of traffic and collided with the rear driver side of
her vehicle.
Gutierrez stated she was not injured but she was obviously pregnant so, out of an abundance of
caution, fire assessed her for injuries and determined a medical transport was not necessary. There
were no defects to Unit#2 prior to this incident.
Damage:
The damage on both vehicles the statement made by Gutierrez. Damage on Unit#1 would most
likely be on the front passenger side if Dini's statement, of being completely stopped, were true.
Tow:
Gene Meyer arrived on scene to tow Unit#2 off the roadway.
Summary:
Based on statements provided and the supporting physical evidence, I determined Dini caused the
collision when she entered an oncoming lane of traffic without ensuring it was safe to do so, failing to
grant the right of way to Unit#2 after slowing/stopping at a yield sign. I issued Dini RPD citation
#3A0345184.
