ED61686 CASE# 23-5048 OF COLLISION 05/04/23 16:40 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 23-5048 On 05/04/2023 at approximately 1647 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and non-blocking vehicle collision at the intersection of Lind Ave SW and SW 34th ST, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. While en route, Dispatch advised that there was a two-vehicle collision and that both vehicles had pulled off to the shoulder of the roadway where they would be waiting for police contact. Upon arrival, I contacted all involved parties and confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response at the time of report. There, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 was identified by pictured WADL and was the sole occupant of his vehicle. The driver of Unit#1 stated he was traveling eastbound on SW 34th ST approaching the intersection of Lind Ave SW prior to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 stated he was intending to continue across the intersection (east) on SW 34th ST. Unit#1 stated that he stopped at the stop sign controlled intersection before proceeding out into the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 said he saw Unit#2 traveling on Lind Ave SW and believed Unit#2 was traveling at a high rate of speed. Upon crossing the intersection, Unit#1 was contacted by Unit#2 causing moderate damage to the passenger side of Unit#1. The driver of Unit#2 was identified by pictured WADL and was the sole occupant of her company vehicle. The driver of Unit#2 stated that she was traveling northbound on Lind Ave SW approaching the intersection of SW 34th ST in lane 2 of 3. The driver of Unit#2 stated she was intending to continue north. The driver of Unit#2 stated that it was not a controlled intersection for her direction of travel and therefore continued north through the intersection. Upon entering into the intersection, she observed Unit#1 enter the same intersection from the west, and that Unit#2 could not avoid the collision before colliding with Unit#1 causing moderate damage to the front of Unit#2. 1 reviewed the intersection and determined that only westbound and eastbound traffic on SW 34th ST were controlled by posted stop signs. Unit#1's direction of travel had a stop sign posted and therefore Unit#1 should have stopped and granted the right of way to traffic in the roadway. Northbound and Southbound traffic on Lind Ave SW were not controlled therefore Unit#2 had the right of way to continue through the intersection. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Shirzadeh) was the predominant factor for the cause of collision as Shirzadeh did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and underway. Shirzadeh violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of- way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways. Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 were able to be driven away from the scene without further incident. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. I cited the driver of Unit#1 by mail for Failing to Stop at an Intersection (RCW 46.61.190.2) and causing a collision. PAGE 3 OF 5 REPORT NO.
