NARRATIVE
23-5323
On 05/11/2023 at approximately 1455 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking vehicle collision with
reports of injury at the intersection of Bronson Way North and Houser Way North, within the City
Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, Renton Fire was on scene triaging the involved parties. Renton Fire evaluated and
treated the involved parties at the scene where they were later released. While on scene, I collected
each involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the incident.
The driver of Unit#1 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling northbound on
Houser Way N approaching the intersection of Bronson Way N in lane 4 of 4. The driver of Unit#1
stated he saw the green traffic light for lanes 1-3 of 4 to make an eastbound turn onto Bronson Way
N, however lane 4 is its own controlled traffic lane. The driver of Unit#1 stated he was working as an
Amazon delivery driver and was paying attention to his delivery app and therefore proceeded
northbound through the intersection in lane 4 of 4 with the intent to continue north onto Houser Way N
stating "all traffic was moving" and he believed he could proceed. While continuing through the
intersection, Unit#1 collided with Unit#2 in the intersection causing significant damage to the rear
axle and fender on the passenger side of Unit#1.
The driver of Unit#2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling westbound on
Bronson Way N approaching the intersection of Houser/Factory Way/Ave N in lane 1 of 2. The driver
of Unit#2 stated she was intending to continue west on Bronson Way N. The driver of Unit#2 stated
that the traffic light was green for her lane of travel and therefore she continued through the
intersection. While in the intersection, Unit#2 stated that Unit#1 had pulled out into the intersection
from the south and that she was unable to avoid collision subsequently contacting the front of Unit#1
with the front of her vehicle causing significant damage to the front of Unit#2.
Two independent witnesses, identified as Christen Pressley and Karen Chow, confirmed that Unit#2
did in fact have a green light for her direction of travel and that Unit#1 appeared to come through the
intersection at a high rate of speed and against the red light indicated for Unit#1's direction of travel.
Based on the above statements, I determined that the driver of Unit#1 (Mohamed) was the
predominant factor for the collision as Mohamed was not paying attention to the traffic control device
for his lane of travel causing a collision.
I cited the driver of Unit#1 in-person for failure to obey a traffic control legend.
Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 had to be impounded due to significant damage. An exchange of information
was provided to all involved parties.
