NARRATIVE
On 05/27/2023, 1 was working uniformed patrol in a marked police car as 1 R23. At approximately
1107 hours, I was dispatched to an injury collision at the intersection of Lind Ave SW/ SW 19th St,
which is located within the city limits of Renton, county of King, Washington. Dispatch advised that
the Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) on-viewed a collision that occurred at the location.
Dispatch also advised that there were injured parties involved in the collision.
When I arrived at the call, I saw that RFAA had shut down all northbound lanes on Lind Ave SW with
cones and their fire apparatus. I also noticed that Unit 1, Unit 2, and Unit 2's passenger were outside
of their vehicles near the sidewalk.
I identified Unit 1's driver as Yonatan S. Yacob (DOB: 08/24/2023, verified via DOL photo). He was
driving a 2022 Toyota Highander (WA/CFF0400, VIN/5TDBBRCH7NS561924).
I also identified Unit 2's driver as Ferdous Zakhilwal (DOB: 12/18/1996, verified via DOL photo). He
was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla (WA/CGY8793, VIN/5YFBU4EE6DP179259). He was
accompanied by Daman Zakhilwal (DOB: 04/20/2004, verified via DOL photo). Daman was sitting in
the front passenger seat.
I spoke to Yonatan concerning the details of the accident. He stated the following to me:
He stated he was traveling westbound on SW 19th St. As he was approaching the intersection at Lind
Ave SW, he stopped at the stop sign, before proceeding to go straight on SW 19th St. He said he did
not see Ferdous's vehicle traveling north on Lind Ave SW. He then hit Ferdous's vehicle on the
driver's side at the intersection.
Yonatan said he had minor pain in his legs/shin area as well as his back as a result of the accident.
Yonatan's vehicle sustained damage to the front end of his vehicle. The entire front end of the vehicle
was dented in with the radiator exposed.
I also spoke to Ferdous concerning the details of the accident. He stated the following to me:
He said he was traveling northbound on Lind Ave SW. As he continued straight on Lind Ave SW, he
described seeing Yonatan's vehicle traveling westbound on SW 19th St approaching Lind Ave SW at
a high rate of speed. Ferdous then said Yonatan did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection and
proceeded through to continue westbound on SW 19th St. Ferdous then remembers being hit by
Yonatan on the driver's side, causing his vehicle to spin, hop the adjacent curb, and stopping on the
grassy patch.
Daman recounted a similar story as Ferdous regarding the accident.
Ferdous said he had minor injuries as a result from broken glass from the accident.
Daman said he was not injured.
Ferdous's vehicle sustained damage to the entire driver's side of his vehicle. There is a large dent
that extends from the driver's front door to the back.
Based on the fact that Yonatan had a stop sign requiring him to stop at the intersection and the fact
that there was a collision, I found Yonatan to be the cause of the accident.
