NARRATIVE
23-7655
On 07/05/2023 at approximately 1435 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and blocking vehicle
collision at the intersection of North 3rd Street and Logan Ave North, within the City Limits of Renton,
County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, 1 located both parties who complained of minor pain but declined medical response.
The driver of Unit#1 complained of minor chest pain but stated she would follow-up with her Doctor
at a later date/time. The driver of Unit#2 complained of left arm/wrist pain which was visibly red.
While on scene, I collected each involved party's information and independent involvement leading
up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 stated that she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling
southbound in about the 300 block of Logan Ave North. The driver of Unit#1 had pulled into the left-
turn lane to yield to traffic for an upcoming left-turn at the intersection of N 3rd ST. The driver of Unit
#1 stated she was intending to turn eastbound onto N 3rd ST. The driver of Unit#1 stated that the
controlled intersection she was approaching was flashing a yellow light. The driver of Unit#1 said that
opposing traffic was waving her forward therefore she proceeded out into the intersection to make the
left turn. While Unit#1 was in the intersection, she noticed Unit#2 approaching from the opposite
direction, specifically northbound on Logan Ave North. The driver of Unit#1 stated that both vehicles
collided in the intersection causing significant damage to the front passenger side of Unit#1.
The driver of Unit#2 said he was the sole occupant of his work vehicle and was traveling northbound
in about the 200 block of Logan Ave North approaching the intersection of N 3rd ST in lane 1 of 2.
The driver of Unit#2 stated he was intending to continue north. The driver of Unit#2 stated as he
continued going straight ahead with a stale green light displayed for his direction of travel, Unit#2
saw Unit#1 turn in front of his vehicle. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was unable to avoid the
collision and struck Unit#1 causing significant damage to the front driver's side of Unit#2.
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Lee) was the predominant
factor for the collision due to not granting the right of way during a left-turn causing a collision. The
driver of Unit#1 violated RCW 46.61.185.1 by not granting the right of way to Unit#2 traveling in the
roadway which had the right of way and was already underway.
I cited Lee in-person for Failing to Yield the Right of Way during a Left-Turn.
Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 had to be impounded due to extensive damage. An exchange of information
was provided to all involved parties.
