NARRATIVE
23-7924
On 07/11/2023 at approximately 1200 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and non-blocking
vehicle collision at the intersection of Renton Avenue South and Southwest Victoria Street, within the
City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, 1 confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response
at the time of report. The passenger of Unit#1 did complain to me of right collar pain but stated he
would follow-up with his Doctor at a later date/time. While on scene, I was able to collect each
involved party's information and independent summary of the events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 said she and her adult passenger were traveling northbound on SW Victoria ST
and approaching the intersection of Renton Ave S. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she was intending
to make a left-turn at the intersection to proceed westbound onto Renton Ave S. The driver of Unit#1
stated she stopped at the stop-sign controlled intersection. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she
believed traffic was clear when she began to turn out into the roadway. The driver of Unit#1 stated
that Unit#2 then suddenly appeared in front of her vehicle and that subsequently both Unit#1 and
Unit#2 collided in the roadway causing significant damage to the front of Unit#1. The driver of Unit
#1 believed Unit#2 was speeding.
The driver of Unit#2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling eastbound in
about the 13200 block of Renton Ave S approaching the intersection of SW Victoria ST in lane 2 of 2.
The driver of Unit#2 stated he was intending to continue straight through the uncontrolled
intersection for his direction of travel. The driver of Unit#2 stated that upon reaching the intersection,
Unit#1 failed to yield to his vehicle at the intersection and collided into the passenger side doors of
Unit#2 causing significant damage.
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Walker) was the predominant
factor for the cause of collision as Walker did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the
roadway and underway. Walker violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching
a stop sign roadway shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting
roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any
vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an
immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or
junction of roadways.
I issued Walker a written warning for Failing to StopNield at an intersection causing a collision.
Unit#1 had to arrange for a private impound due to extensive damage while Unit#2 was able to be
driven away without further incident. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
