IF THE NATIVE MATERIAL MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR "GRAVEL BACKFILL FOR THE PIPE BEDDING" THE FIRST LIFT OF PIPE BEDDING MAY BE OMITTED PROVIDED THE MATERIAL IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TRENCH IS LOOSENED, REGRADED AND COMPACTED TO FORM A DENSE UNYIELDING BASE. FILL MATERIAL PLACE ABOVE PIPE SHALL BE COMPACTED TO 95 PERCENT DRY DENSITY.
