Dear C. E_ "Chip" Vincent (Planning Director), attention of Gerald Wasser (Associate Planner),
Renton Municipal Code (4-4-100.6.a) regulates the letter height for signs in the Renton
Downtown Core. I am requesting a modification via (4-4-100H.9) so my business may be located
(i) and assist in. the economic development of my community. (ii)
I had a logo created for me by an accomplished graphic designer and have used this logo on all
of my marketing. materials for Brag Hair Salon. The logo is a hand -drawn script of. the word "Brag"
and a small header with the words "hair salon' (attached). The letter "B" exceeds the allowed limit
of 24" but the "r" and the "a" are well below the allowed amount at 12" in height, and the "g" sits
at almost exactly 24". (loll exact measurements are indicated on page 2 of this letter.) I am afraid
if I shrink the logo so the "B" falls within the 24" limit it will prohibit patrons from being able to
properly read the sign, witch would be a detriment to my new business. If I were to change the
logo all together I would be out hundreds of dollars n marketing materials as well as the cost for
my graphic designer to create it. I feel having the logo on the sign is necessary to property brand
my business and make it identifiable to customers who have been reached by our marketing
materials
am a new business owner and was unaware of the sign regulations in the Downtown Core,
although I realize ignorance to the rules is not an excuse, I purchased a sign after reading the
Sign Permit thoroughly and although it mentioned other rules for signs- the letter height limit was
not indicated leading me to believe that there was no rule.
The sign is set to be (rung next to my door, under an awning, in the same place where the
previous business' sign was hung.
In closing, I hope you will approve my request for a modification so I may better distinguish my
business to the community.
Thank You and Si ly,
