NARRATIVE
U2 EB 1100 blk SW Grady Way lane #2; U1 behind U2 same lane; dvr U1 saw yellow light at Powell
Ave SW and started to apply brakes; front U1 collided with rear of U2; front airbags U1
On 08-18-2023 at about 1640 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking collision in the area of SW Grady
Way and Powell Ave SW in the City of Renton, County of King. I arrived in the area at about 1649
hours and observed Unit 01 blocking east bound lane #2 of the 1100 block of SW Grady Way. There
was extensive damage to the front of Unit 01 and the driver was still inside the vehicle. Unit 02 was
in the entrance to a commercial parking lot to the north of the roadway.
The driver of Unit 01 was identified by WADL and was seated in the driver seat of Unit 01 when
contacted. Unit 01 was east bound in lane #2 when the driver saw the signal light at Powell Ave SW
change to yellow. The driver went to apply their brakes when the front of Unit 01 collided with the
rear of Unit 02. The driver appeared shaken up by the collision and was unable to provide any
additional information about the collision.
The driver of Unit 02 was identified by WADL and was seated in the driver seat of Unit 02 when
contacted. The driver spoke limited English and was not able to describe what occurred during the
collision. The driver's adult son later arrived on scene and provided insurance information.
Based on the damage to both vehicles and debris in the roadway it appeared Unit 02, followed by
Unit 01, was east bound in the 1100 block of SW Grady Way in lane #2 (of 2) approaching the
intersection with Powell Ave SW. Unit 01 continued east bound and collided with the rear of Unit 02
causing moderate damage to the rear bumper of Unit 02 and major damage to the front of Unit 01.
The proximate cause of the collision was Unit 01 following too closely behind Unit 02.
No citations or infractions issued. Report for insurance and information.
