NARRATIVE
big white 5500/2 stopped small slv Arius/1 lane change into unit 2
Within the city limits of Renton/King/Wa I responded to a 2 car blocking crash near the intersection of
SW Grady Way at Oakesdale Ave SW. When I arrived there was a large 5500 type work truck in the
left turn lane and a small Prius angled into the front of the trucks front right tire. These two vehicles
were blocking west to south and westbound. I coordinated with both drivers because the damage
was so minor to have them move.
I contacted the driver of unit 2 who told me he was stopped in the left lane and as soon as the light
changed green he felt a bump on his truck. Looking over his hood could see he was hit by unit 1. He
did not complain of injury and damages did not require a tow truck.
I contacted the driver of unit 1 who told me his two back seat passengers were complaining of injury.
I requested Renton Fire respond. We had moved into the Shell gas station at this point. The damage
to unit 1 did include a flat tire and some damage to the front left fender from the lug nut studs from
unit 2, but otherwise it was clear to me this was a slight contact between vehicles. Unit 2 passengers
were being treated by Renton Fire. I overheard Fire telling the passengers it didnt seem their
complaints of injury were consistent with the collision. Both were released onscene and were able to
walk and wait out of the rain under cover near the gas pumps.
Unit 1 driver told me he was driving these two passengers as a commercial shuttle. He told me he
needed to get over into the left turn lane. He said he was stopped, signaled and waved his hand
towards unit 2 driver. Unit 1 said when the light changed he believed he was clear to change lanes
from unit 2, but rather turned into the side of his car at hardly a walking speed. Unit 1 driver did not
complain of injury and damages did not require a tow truck. He was able to install a spare tire.
I explained to unit 1 that unit 2 probably didnt see you based on the size/height of his truck and that
unit 2 did not have a duty to yield to a car he didnt see and that he was required to make his lane
change when it was clear of hazard. I also explained to unit 1 that after talking with the two
passengers and providing them with a copy of the info exchange that his passengers seemed (faking)
more injured than based on my experience than they would have suffered.
Information/insurance only.
I certify (declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the
foregoing is true and correct.
