NARRATIVE
23-11816
On 10/23/2023 at approximately 1355 hours, I was dispatched to an unknown-if-injury blocking
vehicle collision at the intersection of Bronson Way North and Garden Ave North, within the City
Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, I located both vehicles still blocking the center lane as well as one of the westbound
lanes of Bronson Way. 1 observed airbag deployment on both of the involved vehicles, moderate
mechanism, and one of the involved parties complaining of minor pain. I requested that Renton
Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) respond to the scene. RRFA later responded and evaluated all
involved parties at the scene. While there, I collected each involved party's information and
independent involvement leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 stated he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling southbound in
the 100 block of Garden Ave N and approaching the stop-sign controlled intersection of Bronson Way
N. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he was intending to make a left-turn to proceed eastbound onto
Bronson Way N following the turn. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he checked for traffic and
although he noticed Unit#2 approaching the intersection, the driver of Unit#1 stated that he believed
he had sufficient time and distance to make the turn. As Unit#1 proceeded out into the roadway, his
vehicle was met by Unit#2. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he was unable to avoid the collision after
having pulled out into the roadway and that Unit#2 struck the entire driver's side of Unit#1
subsequently causing significant damage because of the collision.
The driver of Unit#2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling westbound in
about the 1300 block of Bronson Way N in lane 2 of 2. The driver of Unit#2 stated she was
approaching the uncontrolled intersection (for her direction of travel) with the intent to continue west
when she observed Unit#1 turn out into traffic and into the lane of travel Unit#2 was occupying. The
driver of Unit#2 stated she was unable to avoid the collision and ultimately collided in the roadway.
Unit#2 suffered significant damage to the front of the vehicle because of the collision.
Based on the above statements, 1 believe that the driver of Unit#1 (Girard) was the predominant
factor for the cause of collision as Girard is required to comply with RCW 46.61.190(2) which states
that every driver of a vehicle approaching the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver
has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the roadway, and after
having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on
another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is
moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways. Unit#2 was already underway in the
roadway and had right of way.
Unit#1 was able to be driven away from the scene without further incident. Unit#2 had to be
impounded due to extensive damage. An exchange of information was provided to all involved
parties.
