EE26989 CASE# 23-13464 OF COLLISION 11/22/23 15:59 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 23-13464 On 11/22/2023 at approximately 1602 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking vehicle collision at the intersection of NE 7th Street and Kirkland Ave NE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. While en route, Dispatch advised that there was a two-vehicle collision, no injuries reported, and that the involved vehicles were blocking the roadway. Upon arrival, I contacted all involved parties and confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response at the time of report. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling westbound on NE 7th Street approaching the intersection of Kirkland Ave NE. The driver of Unit#1 stated she was intending to continue westbound on NE 7th Street but claimed that there was sun glare coming into her vehicle obstructing her view. The driver of Unit#1 stated that while traveling westbound, she stated she did not see a stop sign and continued through the intersection without stopping. Upon entering the intersection, Unit#1 contacted Unit#2 causing significant damage to the front driver's quarter panel and axle of Unit#1. The driver of Unit#1 admitted the collision was her fault as she simply did not see the stop sign. I contacted the driver of Unit#2 who stated he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling southbound on Kirkland Ave NE approaching the intersection of NE 7th Street. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was intending to turn east onto NE 7th ST. The driver of Unit#2 stated that he stopped at the intersection and checked for other traffic. Upon determining that it was Unit#2's turn to proceed, Unit#2 proceeded out into the intersection. As Unit#2 entered the intersection, he observed Unit#1 also proceed into the intersection from the east, and that Unit#1 did not stop or try to stop at the intersection. Unit#1 and Unit#2 collided in the intersection subsequently causing significant damage to the rear driver's side quarter panel and wheel bearing of Unit#2. 1 reviewed the intersection and discovered that it is a 4-way stop with posted stop signs at all 4 corners of the intersection. Unit#1's direction of travel had a stop sign posted and therefore should have stopped and granted the right of way to traffic in the roadway. Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Roberts) was the predominant factor for the cause of collision as Roberts did not obey the traffic control device, (i.e. the posted Stop Sign) nor did she grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and underway. I issued Roberts a written warning in-person for inattentive driving and expired registration greater than two months. See warning #W23067373 for additional details. Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 had to be impounded due to extensive damage. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
