NARRATIVE
24-8594
On 08/15/2024 at approximately 1341 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and partially blocking
two-vehicle collision in the 1000 block of Sunset Boulevard NE, within the City Limits of Renton,
County of King, State of Washington.
Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties and confirmed no injuries had occurred requiring
immediate medical response at the time of report. There, I collected the involved parties driving
documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 (Duhra) stated he was traveling north on Sunset Blvd NE when another
uninvolved vehicle swerved into his lane causing him to swerve to the east shoulder and collide with
the rear end of Unit#2 which was parked and unoccupied on the east shoulder of the 1000 block.
Unit#2 was not occupied when the driver of Unit#1 collided with it.
The daughter (H. Lee) of the owner of Unit#2 stated she was in her apartment when she heard the
collision. She came out to the street to see that the driver of Unit#1 had collided with the rear end of
her mother's vehicle. The owner of Unit#2 (K. Lee) later arrived on scene and was provided with a
case number for insurance purposes.
Duhra was not paying attention to traffic in front of him. Duhra violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC)
10-12-25-Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public
highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in
this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the
prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the
weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver
focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2)
attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or
traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require.
(Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11).
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Duhra) is the proximate
cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. Duhra should have been paying closer
attention to the movement of traffic in front of him.
Unit#1 and Unit#2 were both towed due to extensive damage.
