EE82573 CASE# 24-5782 OFCOLISION 06101/2402:27 OF COLLISION NARRATIVE On 06/01/2024, 1 was working uniformed patrol in a marked police car as 3R23. At approximately 0233 hours, officers were dispatched to an unknown injury accident at the Safeway at 2725 NE Sunset Blvd, which is located within the city limits of Renton, county of King, Washington. Dispatch advised that a passerby reported a motor vehicle collision in the parking lot of the Safeway. Dispatch updated officers and said that multiple callers were reporting a motor vehicle accident and potentially a rollover accident. Dispatch also stated that some witnesses reported seeing multiple subjects running away from the vehicle involved in the accident. Another witness had also reported to dispatch that the subjects seen running away from the vehicle involved in the accident were now gone from the location in an unknown SUV. When I arrived at the dispatch location, I saw that other officers were already on the scene. I saw that officers were speaking with various witnesses in the parking lot of the Safeway and taking photos of the incident. Sergeant D. Moynihan informed me that when he arrived, he saw that the city light post (Pole# 0477D) was completely knocked down and that there was damage to the nearby King County bus stop sign and nearby guardrail. He also said that the light post was in the middle of the roadway blocking eastbound NE Sunset Blvd lanes and he had to move the light post to the sidewalk area. I went to the vehicle involved in the crash which was a gray 2012 Nissan Altima (WA/CLX8199, VIN/ 1 N4AL2AP5CC201193). The Nissan was up on the south side sidewalk, into a tree, facing east on NE Sunset Blvd adjacent to the Safeway parking lot. I saw that the Nissan had damage everywhere with significant dents and cracks all over the outside of the vehicle. I also saw that the Nissan had one of its tires rip off the axle. 1 saw that all the interior cabin airbags were also deployed. There were also various containers of alcoholic beverages with writing similar to "Long Live Jaime". As I looked around the Nissan, I saw that the keys to the vehicle were on the ground, in the dirt next to the vehicle. I gave the keys to Officer N. Brown as he had already begun to collect the evidence in this case. Officer N. Brown also told me that he found an ID near the Nissan with the name "Kayla Garcia-Jimenez (DOB: 03/17/2004). This subject is associated with a residence off of 1207 Dayton Ave NE. I know this residence to be associated with known gang members. I spoke to a few witnesses who flagged officers down who live at the Sunset Terrace apartment complexes on the north side of the street across the Safeway. I saw some video they had of the incident. One video captured a black SUV facing westbound on NE Sunset Blvd briefly stopping in the middle of the westbound lanes near the Nissan. This black SUV appeared to know the subjects that were seen inside the Nissan. Another video captured a brief verbal argument between the recorder and the female driver of the SUV. One of the rear passengers rolled the window down and you can see an unknown male subject and others in the rear seat. Other witnesses mentioned that there were surveillance videos along the side of Sunset Terrace Apartment that may face NE Sunset Blvd where the accident occurred. I did not have access to this video at this time. PAGE 3 OF 6 DATE AND REPORT NO. EE82573 CASE# 24-5782 OFCOLISION 06101/2402:27 OF COLLISION NARRATIVE Gene Meyer's tow was called to retrieve the vehicle as I could not contact the registered owner at this time. The City of Renton Signals department eventually arrived to manage the damage to the city light pole and utility box. The employee stated that the damage would be around at least $15,000.00 to replace. They also mentioned that the utility box that was hit controlled various traffic signals in the area. Based on the fact that the driver of the Nissan left the scene of an accident without contacting the police, I found probable cause for RCW 46.52.020-Hit and Run. Additionally, based on the fact that the driver of the Nissan left the scene of an accident and the fact that the driver maliciously caused at least approximately $15,000.00 worth of damage to city and county property, I found probable cause for RCW 9A.48.070 -Malicious mischief in the 1 st degree. Additionally, based on the fact that the driver willfully drove in a manner that disregarded the safety of others around them resulting in a significant accident damaging thousands of dollars worth of city infrastructure, I found probable cause for RCW 46.61.500 -Reckless driving. Associated photos and video were uploaded to Evidence.com to be added to the case file. At this time, the identity of the suspects are unknown. Should a suspect be identified, there is probable cause for the above crimes. I request that this report be forwarded to the traffic investigations for further follow-up.
